Hey so a mate of mine got his bike bumped and we found it being sold online. What’s the best way forward for recovering it?
-
• #16579
Either arrange a meet and ask to test ride and just ride off or arrange to meet with a group of friends nearby and take it by force if needs. Both options will involve some level of risk potentially. The police won't help you.

Right ok, ya that’s what I thought. Thanks for your help!

My daughter just had her bike stolen in Dalston. Looks like the lock was tampered with as that was left behind.
Is this common? -
• #16582
Sorry to hear that.
Presuming the bike was locked properly, there are a few approaches to stealing a bike...
- Angle grinder a heavy duty d-lock style
- Bolt-Cutters on a cable, or braid, or chain style lock
- Force/pick a budget/older lock open
- Damage the thing the bike is lock to, and get the lock off later
If stealing bikes is how you make your living, you know which ones are vulnerable.
Good for them, not for us.Bike theft in East London is particularly common.
Tampering with the lock in some way is common.
Leaving the damaged lock behind is the default... you want the bike, not the lock.If it was a registered Kryptonite brand lock, you can potentially make a claim.
If you can give some more info about the lock, how it was locked, where it was locked, we can all potentially give tips on how to avoid it happening again.
Again, sorry to hear that.
Make sure you do report it as a crime and if its the case that it turns up, you might get it back.
It might seem futile but you will also be increasing the stats and might contribute to improving the police responses and such. - Angle grinder a heavy duty d-lock style

58cm Specialized Langster Pro stolen from SW Bristol last night. Slightly rubbish pictures but the only ones I can find. It's got a black fizik saddle on it now and a longer all black stem. 58mm American Classic rims on hope hubs with black Vittoria corsa tubs. Miche air chainset. Distinguishing features are a Vision sticker near the BB and a BC one on the chainstay.

Have you had your bike stolen and tried contacting the police?
In my case, they responded and provided a few officers to help take the bike back. Sadly, the thief managed to get away.
I would definitely at least try to get police involved @user156565 -

Friend of mine has just the stem/bars and brake levers removed on Friday night. May they burn in hell, maybe just start off with cigarette lighters, burning in an annoying way. Back to the point - this bike https://www.zetlandcycles.co.uk/post/my-cube-gravel-amateur Is the one, stem pretty unique.
Will be sticking the remains in classified section, since the former owner did his work it’s seen a lot of abuse but parts still there bar the above
Cheers now

Just had this stolen: (Just off the Strand, somewhere around Lunch)
Gloria branded Lynskey ti Frame, Columbus fork with some pretty stars on.
Ekar and PDWs
Cut through my HipLok Diamond Motorbike lock which is pretty annoying.
Assume they'd been scoping it out for a bit.

Anyone lost a black single speed/internal hub, silver wheels bike with drop bars near London Bridge? Rider jumped lights without even looking at about 2 this afternoon and was heading towards Elephant and Castle.

SCUMBAG ALERT! This cretin stole my gravel/winter road bike from outside Pyllo Bakehouse/Sainsbury’s Local on Holloway Road (up near Archway) last week.
- He poses as a cyclist - helmet, trouser leg rolled up etc, bolt cotters in backpack.
I popped in to get a meal-deal but there was something wrong with the till and it took much longer than needed, I feel like a chode regardless.
Please look out for him and my bike (you never know right).
If you’re not sure or have a gut feeling about leaving your bike, don’t, it’s not worth it. - It’s a custom bike that I built & painted: Hunt wheels, SiSL2 Chainset (compact 46/30 spidering now), mix of SRAM components (Red, Force, Apex), Salsa Cowbell carbon bars 44cm, Planet X stem (silver), Deda superleggero carbon seatpost (not the one in pic), speedplay pedals, 3D printed mirror/woven saddle (also not in pic) and 32mm Gravelking tyres.
- Reward if found or any info message here.
Thanks.

Anyone lost a black S Works? Just seen one being ridden north on Caledonian Road (I’d just stepped out of the Tube station).
Call me prejudiced, but it wasn’t his bike.
