Happy cold time of the year everyone! HDIJ is up for 2024 where we'll once again jump on the fixed / SS bikes and do a long loop, extending past the 90 miles this year for an imperial century. All to commemorate the ride @clubman did in 1959.
Totally new roads for HDIJ, we'll be starting in Sevenoaks and heading down to the coast and back. Sevenoaks is not destination town (for me at least) but it's very well served by fast London trains and means that we'll be in the Good Lanes in very short order. If there are riders travelling down maybe they could get a slice of generosity from London's famous kitchen reno forum and be offered a place to crash the night before.
This is intended as a fixed gear / single-speed ride. Although there will be some climbing there is nothing too steep to cope with on a reasonable gear, say 67-75gi. The idea here is that it's a winter ride and so a fg/ss ride should make it hard enough to be worth getting out whilst still being fun. This edition is a bit rolling, especially around the northern edge of the High Weald but I think we'll be rewarded for our efforts. Mudguards are welcome but not required. You'll definitely need lights.
A few of the details below aren't totally confirmed (or have dropped as the fellow kids say) but sticking a date in the calender means it's something to look forward to. The first of the Moderate Days in the Autumn are in a few weeks as well. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you there!
Start time and location
Leaving from outside the Malabar Cafe in Sevenoaks at 8:30. Plenty of other options in town but this cafe is the depart.
Lunch
A cafe with heating, don't say I'm not generous.
