Fair.

But we replaced the bulb and it was ok but only for a couple of weeks. Last night noticed it flickering. Tried cleaning up connections. I think that's the issue - if it was the wrong bulb it'd probably have died already.

If the connections are sprung make sure they are making good contact, use pliers or a screwdriver to lever them out a bit.
