Hired a zipvan once to help a (now ex) girlfriend move flats. Only did it because the pick-up location was about 100m from the flat she was moving from. Never again.
The previous user turned up about 3 hours late, during that time, we kept contacting Zipcar and they contacted the user who kept telling them they were 5 mins away.
When they did finally get back they threatened me with physical violence and kept mumbling that when you hire a van anywhere else you have it for a day. However, he didn't hire it somewhere else. Cnut.

We use Zipcars once or twice a week since getting rid of our car. I'd say it's been about 90% reliable, we've also had:
- Late returns (as mentioned above) or car just not there at all
- Car so low on fuel (you're supposed to leave at least 1/4 tank) that I was worried I wouldn't get to the petrol station 1/2 mile away
- Fuel cards missing 25% of the time - I don't mind, I pay myself and it takes ~2 minutes to submit a fuel claim and I get cashback or air miles out of it
- Dirty cars (internally) - again rarely an actual problem but it takes me time/effort to clean it so that the next person doesn't have a bad experience
I just get good at complaining to Zipcar and getting driving credits, makes it cheaper for me in the long run.

People.
Previous Zipcar user had parked the car in the wrong street.
Zipcar took 15 minutes to answer the phone, by which time I was already on a bus and making other arrangements.
Still, I spent £1.75 on a single bus hopper fare instead of £9 for a zipcar (which was refunded), was home pretty much at the same time as I'd usually be (although I was very lucky with buses), and I got £6 credit from Zipcar for the hassle, but it meant I couldn't give someone the usual lift.
