  • I know some people love them (I do too!) but if I had to choose a single lens I’m not sure it’d be a prime, but a short telephoto (18-55 cropped // 30-90 FF) is my favourite) as it gives much more options especially if you’re using it for travel. That said if you have this and want another lens then a you can’t beat a prime for simplicity and small form factor (in general) in my view. Just choose one that’s nice and fast (f2 ish) for good low light performance and that smooth bokeh

  • The lens I currently have is a 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6. I also have a 35-100, but it's far too bulky for travel and I think not quite right for my purposes so will be traded in. I'll have a look at something around 18-55 when I do the trade in! Travelling super light, so keeping the camera compact is a big priority.

@h2o thank you! Think I'm pretty sold on the iPad+lightroom then

  • Thanks @h2o and @MementoMori for your advice and thoughts, ended up with a second hand Fuji 27mm WR mainly due to its form factor being exactly what I wanted. The 23mm did look good, but made the whole package slightly larger than I wanted. This was it now sits all in line with my hands when holding, and doesn’t look too obvious 👍

  • Looks great! And very glad to have helped!

  • I'd love to play with one of these. Looks like it could be the perfect little cycling camera

  • Hello all,
    A complete camera noob here.
Looking for a basic small-ish camera for travelling and taking instagrammy pictures for my miss. Something cheap and simple to use with no previous photograpy skills.
I had brief eperience with friends Fuji camera (think it was X-T100) and quite liked the rigid construction and simple use - managed to get a couple nice pics with no idea how to use the camera.
So Im looking at X-T10 as it seems small and simple (and cheepish - about 250 on ebay for decent condition ones..)

Anyone on here maybe thinking of selling something similar?
If not and I end up going with ebay one - how do I choose a all-round compact lens for it without breaking the bank?

Your expertise is highly appreciated. Many thanks!

  • If you’re a complete beginner and are just starting out and seeing what you like, there’s a reasonable argument that if you have a decent smartphone then this is a pretty good starter, plus you’ll have it on you most of the time so are more likely to use it and get comfortable with framing and finding the right scene to photo.

If you’re feeling constrained by the lack of manual controls on a smartphone then look for something that hits those pain points. If you’re at that stage now then go into Parks Cameras or London Camera Exchange and talk to one of the team to see what they recommend. They usually have a good selection of second hand stuff within the group that they can get in for you rather than running the gamut of eBay. Might be more expensive, but at least it’ll have been checked and have some form of warranty.

  • I'm building a photo booth for my sister's wedding. There is little to no budget.

Things are going well so far, I have found a mostly broken Canon 1000D for £20 which I can make work with a tablet I bought for £30 or a pre-existing RPi.

But I find myself without a lens. Has anyone seen anything silly and cheap that might work? I know a few options like a CCTV lens adapter for my m43 Panasonic that provides lo-fi fun on a very low budget, but I'm not finding anything similar for Canon EF.

Wide as possible, even fisheye. No auto control required. Lowest quality acceptable.

  • You’re moving into territory where memories might be sharper than the pics.

  • if is just for the wedding try to get the kit lens, set as 18mm and you done, or, rent locally or in fatlamma.com for the event and return, you wont pay much, or just use an old phone on a led ring light that you might be able to do or something..
You can also try any version of the Helios lenses+adapter, set in inifity, mark on the floor the focal area where people should stand and snap with the IR remote.

  • Check mpb.
Xt10/20 is great for you but tbh I would just use the phone if I was you.

Or get a decent compact, there is very good stuff out there. But in that price range, probably would go to a older Ricoh GRD IV or something after that like the Ricoh GR if fits in your budget.
Think about portability and how much stuff you have to carry in order to keep it juiced with power, chargers etc, for me that is important too.

  • Adobe uses CUDA cores from NVIDIA very well :)
You'd notice a difference for sure when moving those sliders, specially in Premiere if you add postfx BUT, there is ways to go around it if you dont have a dedicated GPU, you can editing wisely and leave those post fx to apply only in the end of the editing so your setup woulnt need to process in each preview if that makes sense. Also check cache allocation disc, preferably a SSD or a m.2, thesedays if you get a m.2 vai usb-c it doubles as storage and cache well and you notice difference too. hope it helps.
Check performance/workflow tuts for Adobe LR and Premiere.

  • Coming back to this, still haven't replaced my Macbook Pro with either a new Macbook nor an Ipad Pro.

I've found an Ipad 8th gen that's been sitting in our garage in one of the moving boxes. I've installed Photoshop and Lightroom to give that a go to see if I like the initial editing on the Ipad.

Great way to give it a try before splashing out cash.

  • I'd stick with a phone tbf compared to this.

  • Quite tempted to try one tbh.

I like sea swimming and photos, and can't really do that with a phone. Also looks safer whilst riding in case dropped etc.

    Pricey mind!

  • I've spent too much money on those type of cameras in the past (Go Pro - DJI Action etc) all with the same result - I end up not using them.

I realize this is not a typical action camera but imo, Sony is trying to fill a void that doesn't really exist. I read some reviews / comparisons to mostly action cameras but imo you should compare this 1 on 1 to a recent Iphone of some sorts.

  • Yeah it's more the waterproof thing. You prompted me to google it, and you can get diving cases for phones now for £50 or so, which might be a better option!

  • Or a second hand go pro hero

  • thanks for the tips

  • d of the editing so your setup woulnt need to process in each preview if that makes sense.

Not a problem, let us know how you got along when you get there!

  • Budget budget lens for Fuji X-T2? I just got the X-T2 after a long search, but in need of a lens. Looking for something that covers the 28mm-35mm range and fast(ish). What's good?

  • 35 F2 XC or a used 35 F1.4 or 23 F2 or if you want a zoom, the fujifilm 18-55mm kit lens or sigma 18-50mm for constant f/2.8

    https://www.wexphotovideo.com/fujifilm-xc-35mm-f2-lens-1729963/

  • Thanks. I like the primes, but as the camera will be a mix of my own solo walks around town and family snaps, the kit lens sounds like it'll be a winner.
Does anyone know where I might be able to rent on to try? I don't quite have enough money to get one just yet, but also have my kids birthday party this Friday/Saturday so would need one to use and test at the same time.

  • Free loans direct from Fuji..

    https://fujifilm-x.com/en-gb/news/2020/1005_30678/

Would probably try a prime with a zoom for a kids birthday party, if indoors

  • What's the thoughts on the TTartisan/7artisan offerings?
