You have lots of time before the trip, could you look into getting your bikes or other stuff sent over to the destination? Whenever I have taken my own bike on a trip overseas it has always been worth the drag of it. The easiest times I've done it was to not pack the bike and just ride it into the airport then talk to staff about how to board it on the flight. Different airlines, different staff have different 'rules' it seems! Ended up being covered in plastic sheet, loaded panniers included. When I have packed it down it becomes a big box to lug around, rather than a mode of transport if that makes sense :)
