Having gone from a 986 Boxster S to an Aston DB9 I can only say you are absolutely right.

Mind you I have since gone from an Aston to a new life in France, which is even better.

and a 2CV hopefully :-)

Nope, I bought a Mini instead.
(and a Citroën C5, and a Citroën DS3, and seem to have acquired my father-in-law's Citroën C4 Cactus) -

The Mini's are great, the wife has a Cooper D and it's great fun to throw about.. Far more fun than the 7 Seater Kodiaq I drive..

Latest purchase :)
Quattro 240 Sport, super rare!
Completely stock other than the radio (which I have the original!)
It's the same shell as the V6 which is wider, but it's got the 1.8 turbo engine instead of the V6.
Battery in the boot, no rear seats, Recaro Pole Position from seats, Alcantara wheel + shifter to name a few items, plus the cool two-tone paint and wider wheels.
Really enjoying it so far!

Looks great, seats are class.. I've had a few 1.8T's in various things over the years..
-
• #36
Is that a panoramic roof or just reflections playing tricks on me?
-
• #37
I test drove one of those and (with the stock seats) literally couldn’t see out of the windows as my eye line was above the top of them.

@Technics100 - thank-you! It's a really clean example.
Yup, this is the 1.8t but with 240bhp, instead of 225. Does feel a lot quicker!
@CptnBigNose - your eyes playing tricks on you!
@Dammit - I can't work out whether that makes really tall or not!?

Yeah, I had a mapped MK1 VRS Octavia about 210bhp, a 180bhp Bora, 163 Bhp Audi A4 Cab.. My brother had a 1.8T S3 which was about 270bhp... it was quick and stable with the quattro. I drove it round the Nürburgring.. great fun.. especially on 102 octane fuel.. went like stink on that.. and loved producing flames..
-
• #40
The roof is lower than a 225 no?
-
• #41
Nope, shell is the same as the V6 :)
@Technics100 awesome!

Wow, can't believe I've had the car 7 months now!
In my ownership I've done clutch + flywheel, clutch master + slave cylinder, CV boot, oil change and fresh numberplate. All in, just under £2000(+/-) maintenance. Which I don't think is too bad, considering I went into buying this car knowing I'd need to do the clutch shortly, hence paying reduced priced.
Well over a grand of that was clutch and flywheel which is an absolute bitch on one of these, as most of the 4 wheel drive system has to come out. Probably a bigger job than replacing the engine.
I've just kept the car super clean and enjoyed driving it, took a while to understand this cars true limitations as I just couldn't get it to slide. Goes like stink on Shell V power, think it's got some kind of map on premium fuel.
I am looking to move it on soon as I feel I've had my fun with the car.
For me, cars aren't used massively for business as I get the train, so it's just the odd trip to the shops and social, so I just love owning something fun.
Do quite fancy ticking off the following...
. Lotus of some kind
. Audi R8
. Audi TT RS
. Ferrari of some kind
. Austin 7
. Original Fiat 500 Abarth
. R34 or R35 skyline
. 205 GTI 1.9
. Another EP3 Type R, but something turbo -

So in a strange turn of events, I've got my old Porsche back! I really did miss this car, so when the opportunity came to buy it back, I took it.
Previous owner has done a lot (and I mean a lot!) of work:
. front shocks
. rear tyres
. floor mats
. boot latch mechanism
. hood cables
. full service
. new intake system
. brake pipes all round
. both radiators + piping behind the bumperPlan is to keep it until another Porsche Boxster or Cayman comes along that is newer as I'd quite like something with cruise control, sat nav and in general something I can take to France.
My grandad was on D-Day landings, so would like to do a road trip with my Dad in the spring, so something a little newer would be great. A nice little historical trip to learn where my Grandad was in WW2, and some quality time with my Dad.
I really did forget just how much I missed this car. Manual, flat 6, Porsche, burbles on the over run, cheap to buy - ticks a lot of boxes for me.
This weekend, I'll be giving it a seriously good detail. I'd like to get the wheels off and inner arches taken out, spend an entire day on it. Actually quite looking forward to it..
I've still got my Audi and will most likely be keeping it until Spring, but I have quite the hankering for something really silly; Caterham, Lotus

What happened to the Aston? Any pics?

We already have the golf club thread, so what's the point of this thread's parodical mix of conspicuous consumption and dick-measuring? Unless we're now doing some sort of 'most obnoxious thread' competition?

It’s the incessant creep of motonormativity, get used to it as it’s not going away anytime soon.

I'd avoid most of the threads in this section if I was you.
