We start with the total surface area of the sea, which is 139.5 million square miles. To get sea levels to drop by 12 inches, we do a sum to calculate how many cubic metres of stuff needs to be removed from the sea bed.

Will placing the dredged amount in a different area to create the new land not just cancel everything out?
