  • Slightly alarming that this could turn into a direct confrontation between the US and Iran.

Currently, the Israeli and US’ official line is that there’s no evidence of direct involvement from Iran, which sounds a bit like an off-ramp for the latter to call off Hezbollah involvement.
Bibi has wanted a war with Iran for years and I really can’t see any other reason for the US to move a load of its navy to the area - it’s not like they’re going to use that stuff on Hamas.

Given the wider context, with Iranian drones being used to attack Ukraine, this does start to look a bit fucking snowbally.

Grim speculation, but can’t help be a bit worried about where this goes.

  • It’s left a massive power vacuum, and for stability’s sake it’s better that the US fill it and do what they can to avoid a confrontation with Iran, than to have multiple other countries try and get involved. Not that I’m advocating for them to do it, but if it keeps Russia, China, Iran, Turkey, etc from adding powder this magazine, it’s the lesser of two evils.

@lynx Russia is using Iranian drones in Ukraine. It remains to be seen if Hamas used Iranian drones this weekend.

Seems likely but more in the way Ukraine uses them; there's footage of them dropping munitions onto Israeli tanks from drones.

  • Thanks, sort of fear that the drones can come from any Arabic country and be labelled as Iran for an excuse.

  • Ahh yes, China and Iran. You know the countries that go around the globe invading other countries and financing coups. Oh, wait.

In no situation is the US getting involved the lesser of two evils.
