  • I have a question about this myself.

I've never changed mine (~8 years), but haven't noticed any issues. My local dealer who normally does the bigger jobs for me (seat post sleeve reaming and all that) hasn't said mine needs replacing, though I believe he did say it should be changed at given intervals. What's the official/recommended guidance here, only change if needed as long as it's cared for?

  • She / He / They is so beautifully helpful it’s crazy

  • Previously on my SS or fixed I’d never be able to run errands etc without carrying stuff strapped on my back, then I got old (ish), my back started acting like a jerk, however this is so helpful….

  • Anyone have an experiences with the Brompton rear bag?

  • Epic, this is like my set up without the rear bag, when I go shopping.

  • Took the plunge on a taiwanese Brompton post in matte black. Two months to arrive including a month delayed. Well packaged, looks well made, hard to tell in the pic but the colour is more Oxford grey than black.

  • Looks good! It would great to get a small review once you have installed it and used it for a bit

  • Is the rear light on the electric Brompton the same as the dynamo rear? Mines got water inside and stopped working. Anybody got one they're looking to move on?

  • This is a purely a question in terms of cosmetics, and therefore not very important at all, however can anyone recommend break levers for a Brompton in chrome / silver that are lightweight ish and have small ish but have holes in…. Kinda like these but in chrome?

  • Sorry I could phrase / punctuate/ spell that better:

  • Hey that above is a Carradice, as is the front bag…. The rear one is soooo useful. They aren’t cheap but really well made / designed

  • I guess these, but they are mega £$¥:

  • @coventry_eagle and @sbbohr how often would you recommend checking hinges on a newish Brompton? 1.5 years and low milage, there is no play or visible wear. Would you still recommend a full service? Do hinges benefit for
regular check and/or tightening, lubricanting, etc…

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • No limit provided it doesn’t get damaged

  • Check for play, lubricator frame and stem pivot pins, chain the hinge plates every 2 years

Stem and frame pins are fine to have a bit of plate, providing when you tighten the hinge clamps all the play is lost

  • Do hinges benefit for
regular check and/or tightening, lubricanting, etc…

Brompton recommend lubricating with an oil; can’t immediately remember what viscosity.

  • Got a 2014 S2L with the stock 2 speed rear cogs. Is it possible to replace the 16t with a 17t or 18t?

  • I've replaced the 16T on my 6 speed with a 17T, same chain length, no issues.

  • 99% of the time yes. Some tolerance issues for the 1%

  • Ti Taiwanese post is holding out. Not sure the matte finish will last but we’ll see. Replaced Brompton saddle with cut out carbon selle Italia and it’s very comfortable.

Between that and Tpu tubes the bike is down 450g, which is nice.

  • Regarding Brompton front lights, I see the fork crown area mounted ones are seemingly standard, is it worth just getting one of these? I'm a bit paranoid about it being a bit low and potentially tucked away under my bag but I'm guessing it's fine?

  • The bag doesn't get in the way. Yeah, best option out there other than a dynamo light set.

  • What's the thinking on the Brompton Electric? Has anyone got the official one (i.e. not the swytch kit or similar)?

  • I've owned the c line urban electric & a B75 with swytch kit
The electric assist on the Brompton, including torque sensor BB is excellent.
The only downside IMHO is the added weight especially if you do multimodal commute.
The other minor contra is the battery can lose connection over rough ground.
I got rid of them both & bought a P line and a Bosch mid drive e bike.
