  • Spotted these tonight whilst out running. I thought they were parasol, but they're massive and have thicker stems than I've seen previously.

    Any ideas?

  • I believe you're right. Thanks a lot!

Edit: and that site is great!

  • It's parasol central on the pastures behind my place....

  • Good little haul on my travels today - a brace of brown birch boletes from the verge outside the GP surgery and then a fresh looking chicken spied on the road down in to Savernake forest

  • quite a few of these out today
no idea what they are, if they're good eatin' might head back for them

    anyone ?

  • ah shaggy parasols inedible according to the website up a few posts

  • Nah yours have the snakeskin stems I reckon you want to check again!!

    https://www.wildfooduk.com/mushroom-guide/parasol/

  • oooh
so it looks like i've photo'd two different types above, the snakeskin stems and the non snakeskin stems, shows how easy it is to mistake one mushroom for another

the top three are good eatin' then ? damn they're near the top of a steep hill

  • Shaggy parasols are edible, they can just cause gastric upset in some people. We eat them all the time, only way to find out is try a small amount

  • They're delicious, the top three, deep fried after being dipped in egg, then flour (or ground seeds)

  • Oh yeah. I prefer them younger so they don't break down quite so much when they're fried, but a proper good breakfast mushroom.

Been a good season for us so far. Finally found an excellent chanterelle spot and have gorged ourselves silly; got an enormous chicken of the woods on the way home from work the other week and had chicken satay, crispy chicken nuggets and chicken and mushroom pie; and (praise be to the mushroom gods) our first ever penny buns, rather than bay boletes, and a decent number too.

Looking forward to more parasols and hopefully blewits and clouded funnels soon.

  • These popping up everywhere at home.

  • I think these are brown rollrims which unfortunately are not edible :(

  • That’s a shame, look pretty awesome all the same. Thanks ~ Si

    — Loads of birch around here, which seems synonymous with the shrooms you mentioned.

    Another random pop-up

  • Oh fuck yes.

  • Fungus and Bjork? What’s not to be excited about here?

  • I started re-reading 'Entangled Life' yesterday so this is very timely!

  • That is a great book, absolutely fascinating.

  • Yeah, thoroughly enjoyed it first time around. I hope that film will be good too!

  • Found in my greek basil after all the rain.

    High or die?
