  • Wait, are you framing Israel as the oppressed in this?

  • It doesn't have to recoup much to be net positive though, does it?

Not sure. You can imagine a situation where suppliers will be less likely to go for government contracts if it turns out the next government will just come after you if it smells something funny.

i.e. a government attacking its citizens and businesses has a cost all of its own.

  • That was my hope, to leave this thread relatively clear of the sorts of mindless shit-flinging we're seeing on display here.

  • Ah yes, Tanky pricks do love dropping the "Liberal" bomb....

  • Can't imagine that anyone defrauding on any scale would be stupid enough to not do it through a company that could be have been liquidated by now, and avoid any liability

  • Yeah fair point, I'd not thought of that angle - seems manageable as long as they only aggressively pursue cases where there appears to be fraud though? And the alternative is 'we can't stop fraud as asking questions will scare people off' - which is obviously wrong

  • Well thought out and articulated retort. Thanks for your contribution.

  • I don't believe Hamas' actions in this instance are justified but have you questioned why Hamas even exists? Here I'll even quote it for you

"Hamas was founded in 1987,[h] soon after the First Intifada broke out, as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood[43] which in its Gaza branch had previously been nonconfrontational toward Israel and hostile to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).[44] Co-founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin said in 1987, and the Hamas Charter affirmed in 1988, that Hamas was founded to liberate Palestine, including modern-day Israel, from Israeli occupation and to establish an Islamic state in the area that is now Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.[45]"
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas

And a 25 year old wanting to defend their country eh, from what exactly? From retaliation of the people they're oppressing? She went to a music festival 2 miles from the border so they can't have seemed a big threat. The last time Israel was invaded was 1973 so not exactly in living memory for her.

Thanks for avoiding the question entirely btw.

  • If you’re talking about why hamas exists this is interesting.

  • Sorry was your family guy meme supposed to be wise and considered?

  • No, but it added something other than just name calling like a toddler.

  • That's debatable.

  • But it's not justified when they are either an ex solider or off-duty. It's like saying the Guildford pub bombings were justified.

Awfuly convenient for the occupier. Let me control your whole life while I've got this uniform on but once I've put on a t-shirt you can't touch me.

  • Have Israel and Palestine not considered resolving this though a dance off?

Has anyone actually suggested this at the UN?

  • I'm glad I can't be banned.

Yes it's a serious situation, but it's so far gone on the impossibility of resolving itself that in the "all you can do is laugh or cry" I'll go with my usual default.

  • I wonder... if we had a gov.uk petition asking the UK Govt to broker a dance off... how well that debate will go down in Parliament.

  • Debate then.

Either you believe coloured people are more likely to be terrorists or this list is based on geopolitical interests rather than just skin colour.
To push this into public acceptance we need to push the narrative coloured people are terrorist and white people are either freedom fighters or mentally ill.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/proscribed-terror-groups-or-organisations--2/proscribed-terrorist-groups-or-organisations-accessible-version

Either that or it’s just a massive coincidence that the vast majority of terrorist organisations are coloured.

  • Well it can’t have worse repercussions than their involvement for the past few centuries.

  • Questioned? obviously. I am very well aware of the geo-political history of the region.
The fact that the Hamas charter states the aim is to establish an Islamic State across the whole of Palestine should be a bit of a concern? Or maybe not if it means clearing out those jews from the place eh?

So it seems you've confirmed your position is "should not exist"? Just so we're clear.
Good luck with lending your support to the kind of scum who we've seen in action this weekend.
That's reactionary, racist, turbo-sexist, proto-fascist scum. For clarity...

  • Oh sorry didn't realise you were a SME, glad you've taken time out of writing white papers to shitpost on a forum.

Understanding why something exists is not the same as endorsing it.

And thanks for calling me an anti-Semite, very mature of you and not at all the usual defence people use to justify Israel's atrocities.

I have no problem with a state of Israel existing. I have a problem with genocide.

  • only aggressively pursue cases where there appears to be fraud though?

    See Branwen's comment:

Can't imagine that anyone defrauding on any scale would be stupid enough to not do it through a company that could be have been liquidated by now, and avoid any liability

Means the best they can hope for is attacking smaller less well prepared outfits / individuals at scale - a situation where you create a lot of enemies and spend a lot of energy getting back very little. The money is spent, etc.

    the alternative is

Not giving out the money or doing the deals in the first place, unfortunately.

But yeah sick news for folks who fancy a cushy top-guv quango commissioner style role.

  • To push what into public acceptance? The bulk of the groups on that list are either Islamist or white supremacist, as far as I can see (admittedly I've not read the whole way down).

If you wanted a sensible debate about this, there are better ways than snidey comments suggesting that those who hold a different view to you are racist

  • Glad you've made that clear.
You asked if I'd questioned, I replied....
I understand why they exist too but would never support scum like that no matter what the end result was.
The "clearing out..." comment was referring to Hamas policy. Oh and not once have I called you an anti-semite (or mentioned Hitler)...

  • The way we deal with non white humans. Why is my local council giving £500p/m to house a Ukrainian seeking refuge from occupation but not Palestinians?

I think that people are racist. I’m not saying it’s their fault but we often default to the same conclusion in geo-politics which is that the white man and his actions are just.

How many civilians (my apologies, enemy combatants) have just the U.K. killed in the past century? It’s a footnote on the bottom of a journalistic piece about how the brown man has taken up arms as resistance in their own country.
