  • Off to Brisbane for 4 days and getting a road bike rental. I’ve got a Sunday off so rather than lapping Cootha or going down the river, I need some longer ride suggestions. Any pointers ?

  • Been a few few years since I was there but there’s a two bridges route that takes you up Gravatt that was so good I did it three times.

  • Up Nebo and Glorious, through Splityard Creek and Glamorganvale, then either ride back or train from Rosewood. Plenty of variations (and elevation gain) available on that.

  • Yeah definitely Mt Nebo, never done the full loop like @LWaB suggested, sounds epic and will have to do that when I'm back there.
Brookfield has a couple of nice roads, take Western Freeway bikepath and jump off at moggill rd and head out through kenmore, then brookfield. Upper Brookfield Rd to the end and back, then add Gold Creek Rd to the end and back. Can go Gap Creek Rd and connect up to Mt Nebo Rd - So do Brookfield and then Mt Nebo.

  • Thanks all... probably won't do the full loop but will do Nebo/Glorious some way or other. I'll try to figure out the Gravatt route too, not been there yet.

  • Looks like the mental health ride ("Manride"), organised by Black Sheep is the day I was planning to ride so I'll give that a go. No published route yet but they're saying 200km/2000m so might not be ideal after a week of traveling from Europe and working late, time will tell.

  • Planning to ride it myself too. Same route they used a few years back.

  • I'm in group 7 on a rental BMC Timemachine I think. 5:30am start for one of the slow groups, I'll toss my LFGSS jersey in the case so yell when you go past.

  • Dunno how you found it; I bailed at the 7/11 after Nebo as I was heading towards cracking spectacularly (400m+ climbing on the "descent" from Nebo was a surprise). The rain wasn't fun but wasn't too bad.

Great ride in general but definitely quite tough.

  • Looked out for the LFGSS jersey but didn't see you. I was in the 7am 26-28kph group - bailed in Brookfield with cramps. 2440m vert is no joke, and yeah the Nebo descent isn't plain sailing by any stretch. Good effort though! Are you still around for a while longer?

  • I was in Group 7 so we were on the way at 5:30. Chances are you may have been in the 7/11 around the same time as it seemed a lot of riders were rolling in and the groups were getting mixed up with so many people taking that as the exit point (and we were pretty slow so I would imagine you caught up). I'm leaving Weds around lunchtime.
