So, Marathon Sunday week. My program has a 5km parkrun/time trial this Saturday.
Feels a bit spicy for one week out so my plan is to run it at marathon pace. My dad is looking for a 5km PB which is a bit slower than marathon pace so I said I would pace him.
I don't see any advantage in going full gas one week out, unless I'm missing something?

I would normally do something threshold-y around that time, I don't know if it's psychological but feels good to do something hard at some point in the taper. That's still 8 days off the marathon so proximity shouldn't be an issue.

Gonna have to smoke the old man at park run now.

Well that is of course an added benefit

I'm waiting patiently for the day when my wife and 3 kids all do that regularly. My wife is about a minute off, kids are probably 5 - 7 minutes off. But i don't seem to be getting any quicker!

I had a problem with my tibialis posterior tendon after a half last year, and the physio got me doing ankle strengthening as seen on pages 7+8 here - as well as calf strengthening as everyone else said. Could help a bit in the last two weeks of prep

You should give white a go. Nice tight white shorts

I have made this mistake toooooo many times. I'm very sweaty in general and I live in the tropics. It's a look.

No point breaking two before you have all the sponsorships lined up

sponsorships
Not even within 1s per mile of sub 2 on this attempt, so not getting my £1 a mile pledge.
At 23yo he's got enough years to chip away at the record Bubka style to get maximum WR bonuses and build the hype ahead of the sub 2h.

Argh, £75 now 😒
Thanks folks, have been doing some stretching since Sunday and thankfully an easy 90 mins yesterday appears to have loosened it out.
I was pretty diligent with the s&c work when I was dealing with shin splints earlier in the year but stupidly dropped all s&c as soon as they were ok again. I’m 3.5 weeks out from my first marathon attempt so now probably isn’t the time to dive right back into s&c in a big way but I’ve reintroduced some light band work and calf raises now to get me through this month.
