  • Next issue: floor tiles are 19.8cm and wall tiles are 14.8cm.

    Does that matter?

Floor tiles will be black and white, wall tiles plain white.

    We'd rather not have skirting.

  • As in floor joints won't line through with wall joints?

It is near certain that you're bathroom walls will not be perfectly perpendicular so without throwing lots of money at this to fully correct and dub them out, it will be near impossible to get alignment working all the way around. Better to have the floor/wall alignment off all around rather than 95% there with the imperfections being glaringly obvious.

I set our bathroom out based on 97x97cm white square tiles trying to avoid/minimise cut tiles and it's a fool's errand!

  • As in floor joints won't line through with wall joints?

Not really that because I assume that wouldn't happen anyway.

More just does it look odd or wrong to have squares of one size on the floor butting up against squares of another on the wall?

  • No way these are just different finishes - there's pinks!

  • That's what I thought - but they don't do a pink that's that pale. Their only pink looks like this against the white:

What I like is the possible sterility of plain white square tiles having something a little bit different to set it off - hopefully it will work, if not, we'll just put more plants around.

  • Hoping this is not coming out as a reply but my own question! hope someone can help. I have had two of these sinks fitted by our builder and both times they have leaked as there are holes underneath from manufacturing - i guess something to do with firing process, but when you run water it starts pissing out of these holes! https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/kyoto-large-rectangular-600-x-460mm-0th-wall-hung-basin
I've tried 2 different types of waste and still leaks.
I've accepted defeat and that this is just a shit sink (unless someone has a suggestion?)
Anyone got a recommendation for a 600m wall hung sink with no tap holes, please? I can't afford lusso stone type of money....but being able to clean my teeth at a sink (been doing it over the bath for a year and the bathroom has been done that long!) would be nice so i guess maybe i should credit card it

  • @YAFJ do you mean there are holes in the ceramic? Where are these holes? I would have thought they would have been visible before installation. Some photos of where it is leaking might help.

Has your builder suggested the sinks are faulty as well?

  • Use it as an opportunity to get normal sinks. I fucking hate our flat bottomed square sink.

    Stayed at a mate's the other week and it was such a pleasure to brush my teeth and just wash the toothpaste down the plug hole vs my usual routine of;

    1. Unscrew the sink plug
    2. Brush teeth
    3. Spit
    4. Fill jug
    5. Rince spit down plug hole
    6. Screw plug
    7. Realise I forgot to rince the sink after the kids brushed their teeth.
    8. Unscrew plug
    9. Open cupboard and get sponge
    10. Scrub
    11. Fill jug
    12. Rince
    13. Screw plug
    14. Realise I'm another day closer to death
  • We bought this sink for our loft bathroom. It got fitted and there was no leaking but I did notice it wasn't level. The wall was plumb so after a bit measuring I realised the sink wasn't square! Thought it might be a manufacturing defect so got a replacement delivered but same issue so binned it off and got a refund. We ended up getting a unit with drawers and fitted a basin on top which was way more practical, I'd just avoid Victorian Plumbing if you can.

  • Shower toilets. Only a couple of weeks ago I watched the Southpark episode about Japanese toilets which actually insinuated that toilet roll is a massive environmental waste. In the USA people approximately get through 150 bog rolls per annum, one tree provides the bog roll for ten people’s annual use.

Now on holiday in France and two hotels we have stayed at feature shower toilets - ones with the built in arse washer, and one made by Toto also has a rather ineffectual bum dryer too.

Have also been enjoying the bidets in other establishments. At some point our current bathroom is due a refurb, a bidet had been discussed but now the option of a shower toilet makes more sense. Has anyone got experience of such devices? Where can we road test different models?

So far we have used ones from duravit and Toto but there are others on the market. The duravit didn’t have the blow dryer but had better reach adjustment on the sphincter sprayer so you could get it to hit the spot. 😄
The toto has things like a motion sensor so the lid gets raised on approach but to be honest that feels a little bit gimmicky and unnecessary.

I do find it very hard not to giggle when the spray is tickling my anus.

  • The whole concept of using toilet paper is dumb. Washing is far better.

  • Yeah, this.

  • Hold up, you don’t just waffle stomp?!

  • I like to slop on a load of petroleum jelly and just keep it contained until the next purge.

  • A friend installed a Japanese toilet, is an engineering marvel

  • Same, I was quite surprised at the force it squirts your bum with.

@spotter has one too but I never was fully acquainted with it.

I feel a bit like a dirty prole in having a standard toilet installed.

  • I asked an electrician I've used before for a quote on replacing the fronts of some sockets and changing some light fixtures. Fairly sure it will be comfortably under a days work. He has quoted for every specified part of the work, £100 here £150 there, and so the final quote is over £1k. Can I politely ask what his day rate is instead? Or should I just find someone cheaper?

  • Sounds like very DIYable work, don’t fancy doing it yourself?

No point asking his day rate, it’s not like he’s suddenly going to reprice the job at £400. Just get some other quotes in.

  • That’s nuts, we had a partial first fix rewire and new wire of about a dozen sockets, fused spur wall lights with switches, chasing into concrete 5 ceiling lights, moving 4 ceiling roses to room centres which involved more concrete chasing and then the second fix including fitting the back boxes in insulated plasterboard and intumescent sealing.
    This was around 2k.

  • I’d shop around tbh if your not happy, as he’s given you a price and he’s not gonna come back and go oh my day rate is £500.
So my price is now £500, that would make him look stupid. Also it might be a job he doesn’t really want to do and that’s why he’s priced it like this!

  • Probably cba to do the job and priced as such

  • I watched my FiL rewire a socket for us and had no idea how easy it would be. Watched lots of YouTube to make sure I was going to be doing it all ok going forwards.

  • The key to rewiring sockets / light fittings etc (apart from turning off at the CU) is taking a photo of the wiring in place and replicating. Can't be easier.

  • attached pics! both sinks had these holes. builder just shrugged lol
