Terrific bikes. So underrated. Suzuki make the best handling dirt bikes.
I vaguely covet an RMX450Z but they’re next to impossible to get a plate for in CA, so a bit pointless. Why Suzuki didn’t bother making it 50 state legal is a mystery….guess they still sell plenty of DRZs!

You may have seen my CBR about! GF is 5 mins from Roundway.

Carry a 5L jerry? Or just buy the Acerbis plastic tank. Won’t change bike dynamics much on a DRZ and gives way better range.

Yes the weighting on it is so good. Just have to trust it and tip it in and it goes around. Really great.

Sweet, yeah they turn so nicely. I've ridden my pals a load and it handles really similarly to the RM I used to have, just heavier and with four stroke, tractor power. They're a lot more playful than my Hondas. I have one of those massive Acerbis 7 gallon tanks on my XR and while the weighting is good, they make the bike a bit wide and unwieldy. Not a problem on fire road stuff but irritates me when you're trying to pick a line on single track. Can't get your leg out down the fork leg easily either. I think the 4-5 gallon ones are the sweet spot.

Any recommendations for an alarmed lock? I'm going to put in on the shed with the bike in rather than the bike.

Re clothing, if you're starting out I think a jacket is definitely somewhere you can save money. There are always loads second hand - people on here may even have old spare ones they don't need. Even NOS often gets heavily reduced, so there really is no reason to spend much if you're on a budget.

The returns policy on sports bike direct is excellent so they are the go-to if you want to try loads of kit mail order.

I'd probably suggest poneying up for decent gloves from a shop. I've wasted loads on budget gloves. Measurements are never consistent enough, batches can vary so even two pairs of identical gloves can fit differently ime.

This. I mostly wear a pair of Revit Sand 4 gloves and wanted to try a pair of their waterproof version, Sand 4 H20, recently. XXL is perfect for me in the ones I own but I hadn't a hope of fitting into the H20 version. They were so far off I'm reluctant to chance ordering XXXL ones as they didn't have them in stock at my local dealer...

Guessing rear is a more recent replacement than the front, I think I got through a rear a year on my Transalp and only 1 front in the few years I had it

Oh boy, I am endlessly envious of this... I'll dig out some of the good photos from Morocco earlier in the year and share them here, this really reminds me of some of the great roads in Atlas Mountains...

Acerbis 7 gallon tank... a bit wide and unwieldy.

Can confirm... XTZ750 has 26l steel tank and it's a pig when full.

I think 16L on the DR350 is more than enough. Anything bigger would be a lot of fuel to waste when I drop it.

Talking about heavy, my FIL rocked up on this yesterday. Not my cup of tea but the does look great in the sun.

That looks great! There's a Korean travel show on Netflix where the hosts rode around Jeju on these in one episode and I've kind of fancied one since. They seem to be absolutely massive though, must pop to local BMW dealer and have a look!

Can confirm they're fucking huge. GS was in for a service last week and they make the k1600 look tiny.

We both concluded that engine crash bars are a must buy. He had a scary moment at traffic lights when his trouser leg was caught on the brake lever, managed to just save it.
