  • Nothing, oh well.

  • I have this 24"Apple Cinema Display A1267 for sale. It's in lovely condition - a few small nicks on the case but that's it. Includes thunderbolt adapter.
    £120.
I'd really prefer not to post as it's mad heavy but I can maybe help with delivery around Catford etc area

  • i will take this but can only collect after 22nd

  • Yeah no worries. It’s been tucked away for years, another couple of weeks won’t hurt!

  • not sure if new or I just didn't know - but you can assign actions to double or triple tapping the back of an iPhone
Settings -> Accessibility -> Touch -> Back Tap

(have just updated to iOS 17 incase it's not there on prev versions)

  • It’s been there on ios16, not sure if it was there on 15.

  • I find the way that Apple actively hampers you working with pictures is achingly stupid, so maybe I'm missing something.

How do I fix this workflow:

I want to attach a photograph to a post, so I use the search function in photos to find it.
Then I go to the post, click Upload a file, navigate to the Photos option.
Now search isn't available, so I can't find the image.
    Close Upload a file.
Go back to Photos, use search, screen grab the photo (creating a duplicate file on the desktop).
Back to Upload a file, locate the screen grab, upload that.
    Delete the screen grab.

Then I go to the post and drag the photo to the Upload a file section of the LFGSS window.

  • I never knew that worked.

  • You can also edit the toolbars in macOS dialogue boxes iirc

  • Not sure what you mean I’m afraid

  • I was thinking about this

    https://support.apple.com/en-mk/guide/mac-help/mchlp3011/mac

but doesn't seem to apply to open-dialogues.

I think this might be an issue with the default file format for iphone photos. It uses .HEIC instead of jpg

  • Two questions Mac fans:

Are Apple going to release some new Airpod pros with usb-c and if so I should hold off buying some? (Macrumours says yes...)
I'm getting a new work phone stipend (£70pm) and it works via expensing it. Normally I would just buy a handset use it for a few years with a cheap sim only deal but I think for this I will need to go for a contract which = the monthly stipend. As such I may as well just go for the new iPhone 15?

  • 15 is going through some issues right now - overheating, NFC chip dying on wireless chargers. I would either wait for that to resolve or go 14 pro

  • I think I will wait then as buying the 14pro on contract doesn't really make sense

  • Are Apple going to release some new Airpod pros with usb-c and if so I should hold off buying some? (Macrumours says yes...)

    Already available https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MTJV3ZM/A/airpods-pro

  • Aha thanks!

  • That sounds pretty bad. Failed production release.

  • Apparently overheating is software related (at least Apple have acknowledged they're working on an update) but the NFC chip thing appears to be certain cars (BMW & Mini) Qi chargers / overheating on other chargers that's killing the chip. That seems like a production design fault to me.

  • You're just holding it wrong.

  • haha

  • Another reason not to get the new GS then.

  • Regarding iOS 17 - and privacy..

I just looked through the new features the update offers, debating whether I want / need it (though obviously I will install it, sooner or later, so stuff continues to work).

So much of the features of the recent iOS's I just really do not care about, and the majority feel like they're basically spyware, best example would probably be the scanning of my whole photo library and identifying faces.. I definitely remember being able to turn this off (and doing so, I think in iOS 15 or 16) but at some point realised it must have switched itself on again (probably with iOS 16 / later in iOS 16.x).
    Hate shit like that.

Now they're transcribing audio messages by default it seems. Who the fuck wants / needs that?
Scanning all the things now thanks to the expanded "communication safety" feature? No thanks!

tl;dr - is there a comprehensive list of things to turn off in iOS 17 so one can have as much privacy as possible?

  • I have a 15 Pro and have had no overheating issues whatsoever. The NFC chip being damaged is a BMW/Mini problem as far as I’m aware, although I don’t own a car. Phone worked fine connected to CarPlay via a cable in the rental we had last week though. It’s an excellent phone and I think the ‘issues’ have been vastly exaggerated.

  • Now they're transcribing audio messages by default it seems. Who the fuck wants / needs that?

I'd find that pretty useful, shame it doesn't seem to be in WhatsApp yet as that'd be handy for when someone sends me a voice note when I'm at work and don't have earphones to hand

Things like scanning for faces or transcribing messages just be done locally, so can't see the privacy issues
