what is a bottom braket

Something you need to protect you from your cargo, by the sound of it.

I have two, PM me.

Yep still got it, looks like Dexter's got you covered?
Just rehouse yourself will be a breeze!

Nice one, I'll have a look.

Anyone had the rear triangle of their classic Omnium rebuilt to accommodate a wider tyre? Regularly carrying 50kg plus most of the time so a bigger tyre to match the size of the front makes a lot of sense. Thinking about changing the geometry to allow a 26" or 27.5" wheel with the same BB height, though maybe overall diameters would not be drastically different.

prob be cheaper overall to sell and get a new fs...

Seen a bit of chat about the Trek Fetch+2 in here but does anyone actually have one ? I've ordered one to take a look at as a new one is less than a second hand GSD at the moment.
-
• #12561
people have been using the 650 27.5 wheel size for ages.... no mods needed, but i guess depends of the volume you want to use
-
• #12562
I mean is the minor change in bb height really that big of a deal breaker?
-
• #12563
I found that with 175mm cranks and platform pedals I’d get pedal strike v easy with my omnium ‘classic’ which I think is v similar or the same geo as Jon’s bike. With a 700c wheel. I changed cranks to 160 and not an issue anymore.
But I reckon if you’ve got average length cranks dropping the bb would be annoying
-
• #12564
It is annoying. You can adjust your riding style, but you don't want to get caught out with a lot of cargo.
-
• #12565
Thats disappointing.
-
• #12566
Yeah, tried it, very little tyre space to gain by dropping to 27.5" on the classic too.
-
• #12567
would it help to add some dimples for more volume? maybe not that much

The short list is now;
Orbea Katu
Gazelle Cabby
Elephant Bike
In that order.
But let’s see what pops up first. -

Saw a cabby on eBay, if you’re anywhere near Cambridge https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314856269904

That is a steal! but these things are kind of pigs, a bafang would make it more fun but would make sure you have the good shimano roller brakes.
-
• #12571
Yeah I’m all over that one ;) thanks.

Never know if fb links work but this looks like quite a nice bike for the money:
Anyone ridden a bike Friday long tail before?
-
• #12573
nice.. did you get it??
-
• #12574
No :( My all in budget included pick up and fixing was £500, it went for £410 in the end. Still a bargain, but too much for me at the moment. That and it’s really too big for my needs, but when did that ever stop anyone?

We’re selling our kid carrying Butchers and Bicycles at the moment. The kids are a bit bigger and I’m 195cm, so although we’d like a long tail the Tern seatpost angle takes up too much space at the rear being so high.
Any suggestions for alternative cargo bikes I haven’t thought of with a Bosch/Shimano motor? I saw the Surly Big Easy but it isn’t available over here. The Bike Friday above also looks great, but I’d love something Bosch/Shimano.
Bafang is a piece of piss to install. If you can replace a bottom bracket, you can install a bafang.
