Someone posted a picture of the knock off cranks on here recently completely snapped in half after apparently a couple of months of gentle riding

Yeah, you wouldn’t want a crank failure. People should go with a trusted brand like shimano.

Although ditching the crankset altogether and getting something fit for direct mount could also be a possibility.
