  • I feel like this thread would enjoy this video. Especially the bit about making kits...

  • I have left my T25 T-handle in the bathroom.

I daren't ask what you were up to! Just make sure you sanitise it afterwards.

  • But do you not find that you know what’s missing when your tool bag/pack is in front of you.

I’m usually like well that’s missing there.

I’ve not lost much tool either over the years, mostly lost shit from stuff falling down cavity’s the odd occasion.

  • Precisely. Even being jumbled like that, everything still has a place - so very easy to spot missing bits.

  • I'm just not that organised I think, and need a bit of a nudge when it comes to things like this.

I probably left the T25 wrench in the bathroom because I had it in my hand from (say) doing up disc brake rotors in the living room, then put it down to do whatever and forgot about it.

    Middle aged problems, maybe!

  • There's a mini version of that, I picked one up at a show a few years ago, keyring size. I've been opening boxes with it at home. Really neat design, maybe I should get the big one for work.

I spent some time organising a festool 3 drawer unit with a lot of centrotec stuff, plus screws, drill orientated things etc. It worked fine when I was working in a really big space with flat floors (a big garage) but turned out to be way less useful than a bag when I'm working in normal tight spaces. I now know the bag is a much better way of working day to day for me. Like you I check it visually before I leave a work space.

  • My toolbox.
Wanted to be able to tidy all my tools into one place, so that I can do basically do 90% of the work on a bike from it.

    Was super fun to build

  • I bought a second hand flight case and made trays for Shadowfoam

  • that looks very nice but how do you attach the foam to the lid? do any of the tools fall out of the lid section?

@TooTallTim - same questions for you too, please

  • Nah, they all lay flat in the case all facing up

Just put the one layer up the top for display or when I'm working out of it.

  • The foam in the lid section is a few mm oversize in width and height, so it's held in by being compressed slightly. Same with the tools, I've measure them as tight as possible, but still able to pull them out with a finger. Nothings fallen out.

  • I don't want to glue anything in because if I ever want to change it, it'll be a right old mess. Had thought about a small piece of velcro to hold it in the lid but it really isn't needed

  • Excellent work all!

Despite my early comment, I've realised that when I work on my motorbike I do lug a load of tools out the front of the house and a box like this would be good.

However, I'd also like to leave a lot of the tools on their wall mounted magnet holders, so not sure I could commit.

This has to be the absolute highlight though:

  • Double sided tape?

  • There’s a level of commitment there that I wouldn’t be comfortable with.

What happens if your pulley wheel oil runs out and you can’t find another in the same vessel?

    Terrifying.

  • Buy some more foam and recut everything.

That or leave it and watch the world burn

  • Buy some more and decant it into the old vessel.

  • New foam is the only way.

As a child I’d try and eat my Easter eggs without it looking like I’d eaten anything from the box, I.e I’d put the wrappers and egg foil back in looking as undisturbed as possible. This thought has just come back to me now and I’m currently realising that wasn’t normal behaviour.

  • Try that with the loctite wiseguy.

  • Yea I did that tool... Isn't that normal?

  • Buy some more foam and recut everything.

That or leave it and watch the world burn

I cut my foam, then got rid of the hydraulic dropper, now I have regrets.

  • I did that tool.

    .

  • Yeah, I've done that.

  • And much stranger things with various eggs.
