  • I mean, as someone who has worked on different sites sites for over a decade, I can count the tools I’ve lost on one hand. 1x set Knipex needle nose pliers in a flat renovation in Amsterdam, a Bessey knife on a site in Leeds, and a Makita drill was nicked off a different site in Leeds, and if we’re being really picky, someone nicked my tracer pencil off the same site.

I’ve never once needed to make foam inlays to not lose shit, lol. Don’t get me wrong, they look very nice to use. But it’s a very expensive, time consuming and space inefficient way to carry tools!

I think the same thing can be achieved with any tool bag that has slots/compartments. Just have a system for where everything goes and it’s very easy to keep track of where your stuff is.

  • I’m talking really about being a home mechanic where you might have worked on something out in the garage, or in the sitting room, or done something in the kitchen etc etc and then left the tool there.

Having a witness in the tool box as it were means you don’t slam the boot and head off without it, but can go back inside and grab the lock ring tool and put it back in it’s place.

  • But do you not find that you know what’s missing when your tool bag/pack is in front of you.

I’m usually like well that’s missing there.

I’ve not lost much tool either over the years, mostly lost shit from stuff falling down cavity’s the odd occasion.
