  • Yeah, they're mad expensive now. A 1560 is about £300 if not more. Command about the same used. This was £30 used

  • Sure, I guess my only (and that’s arguable !) point is you can only find the “right” answer when you’ve asked the right question. Goose/gander etc

  • I'm with you on sometimes pelicases being a bit bulky unnecessarily. Working in film and lugging a suitcase sized box around only to discover it held three short cables is a prime example of that

  • I prefer proper tool boxes with drawers and trays for different related things. Pissing about trying to neatly lay tools into foam can get to fuck.

  • If it was sensitive electronics or camera gear, then sure but unless you're an pro mechanic, working out the back of a different hotel for 6 months I don't see the point of waterproof and shockproof toolboxes. If your tools need padding, your tools need to HTFU.

  • If I had the space, everything I owned would live wherever I last dropped it on the floor

  • That's 50% of my life.

I have to step over this shit to get away from my "office".

    I am a mess.

  • I didn't buy a case because of its shockproof, waterproof characteristics. My requirements were:

    • a lid
    • cheap

The old toolbox was a broken Addis thing without a lid. I mean technically this new one is broken too. Maybe I should've just bought a lid and got on with my life? Who knows, I'm in too deep now

  • The lid on my big Clarke box stays open, because how else are you meant to throw your tools back in it?

I have a smaller "fishing tackle" type case that moves around more. When I get a garage I'll buy the bottom half for this which is a big cabinet on wheels. But that won't happen for 100 years at this rate.

  • I agree that £300 glorified plastic tubs with a hinge lid can get fucked.
The only time my tools leave the garage is when I put them in an orange Sainsbury’s bag to take to the uplift.

But I reckon I could be tempted by a cheap second hand copy…
@TooTallTim where did you get yours used from? EBay?

  • See what I assume from this picture is you only mechanic naked…

  • where did you get yours used from? EBay?

Yep. I've since learned of a film industry kit listings website which seems to have stuff on it quite reasonable prices, but the website looks like it was designed in 1995 and loads at mid-nineties dial up speeds too. Deals to be had, but you'll be dead before a page loads.

  • Ah, I had missed the copy was second hand... But also the current peli prices, gosh! My small airplane-cabin-allowed Peli was a present from my wife, but I'd been looking at them back then and it was at least 40% cheaper than now I reckon!

Duh, also misunderstood that you didn't bin a Peli but wished you knew about @PhilDAS 's one... Still wonder what was wrong with it...

  • There was nothing wrong with mine, it had brand new foam too. I was just moving house and had too much stuff

  • There was nothing wrong with mine

    Ah great, Peli faith restored!

  • Doesn't everyone? How else do you keep your clothes clean?

  • The advantage of neatly cutting out the foam and laying your tools out is that you can instantly see if one is missing before you head off to wherever. Which means you can find it, put it back in its place, then bugger off.

  • I used Festool boxes because they stack together and have lots of accessories

  • Nup, does not compute. I'm not checking my toolbox for missing tools.

One box, all tools. Take box.

Shit, I don't even take a box. I carry some allen keys. If I've done more damage than that I'm looking for a shop or in hospital.

  • You lot are gonna be mindblown when you realise you can sign up for a Trade Account on the Peli website with no verification, and everything instantly becomes half price.

  • Clearly you don't subscribe to his OnlyFans account.

  • Wowser @veLLo @Psy

“You lot are gonna be mindblown when you realise you can sign up for a Trade Account on the Peli website with no verification, and everything instantly becomes half price.“

  • Maybe store stuff inside the case and not bin it. Sorry, silly idea.

  • you can instantly see if one is missing before you head off to wherever. Which means you can find it

First part sounds tempting, second part sounds improbable
