Just putting this in here in case it's useful for anyone for future ref. Did it, rigid MTB which I regret a bit, at least my arse does, but it was good on the roads/downs link. Nice scenic towpaths and roads for the first 10m, then some quite nice singletrack and a gnarly descent around 10-20m lots of flat/boring but reasonably pleasant Downs Link after that a steep climp around Beeding Hill which most walked up follwed by some flowing tracks and lovely views. Well organised event. I'd use a bike with some bounce next time to save my rear end and arms as I'd rather enjoy the bit of of fun stuff. This was the route:
