  • One a week is a good baseline. If you start messing about with intervals midweek, you may find the time decreasing.
Turning 40 doesn’t mean slowing down.

Every day for a week is a bit much!

  • I did something like a HM every day for a week during 2020’s July accumulator that I did (as did @hats ). It was pretty tough but also came at the end of something like 500km in a month. Gotta say doing something like that again does appeal now. Or like the Festive 500 but running

  • Oh yeah that was fun! I want to do another thing like that - I can't find motivation to run sensibly but if there's a stupid challenge then I'm balls to the wall into it.

  • Though I did something sensible today - parkrun for the first time in 8 years or so! It's at 7.30am here, which is a bit hateful, but I think I'll try to go again without leaving it another 8 years (just need to get over the crippling anxiety about showing up alone - I've actually tried to go a few times since moving here and have chickened out and cycled past... lame I know).

  • Are you out of China now @hats ? 🙂

  • Shall we set it up?
F 150? over 10 days to allow some semblance of injury prevention.
Or could do a calculator based on previous distance/ week * a %.
I bet Tracksmith would be keen. (though Ford tie-in is obvious)
Need something to force me outside now with the tiny kid.

In other news- my wife bought a treadmill. It's big and ugly and silly. She loves it. I hate it.

  • Yeah treadmills are the devils work, but with small kids they allow running while they sleep, so they have a place, also can be good for building mileage if you are fragile…

  • Yes!! (thank fuck!) I moved to Singapore in November last year.

  • Am I right in thinking @Chopsicle created the f500?

  • Just realised I used to ride mtb there (Aston Hill). Broke some ribs there when I was 16 hitting a tree mid-flight. It’s got some incredibly steep bits.

    Might join you.

  • Happy with the Southern road relays yesterday. I was anchor leg in our 4-man V50 team. Vets races were combined with the Senior Men's race so it was impossible to work out where we were in the race, but I was pleased to find out afterwards that I got us up from 3rd to 2nd for silver medals. Also ran the 3rd fastest V50 leg of the day, just 13 seconds slower than fastest leg (which was run on the first leg, mass start.)

And I've got the photo, in case anyone wonders whether I was really trying.

  • Realise my wording was terrible there. I meant to say the 40th HM this year! Nine more years till 40 for me.

  • Any ideas what the cut off for London GFA tends to be? I have a 2.55 that I am worried will not be suffficient...

  • Am I right in thinking @Chopsicle created the f500?

Sort of - I had time on my hands one winter, and was working with Rapha Condor, so decided to see what it was like to be out in all conditions, with the objective to design better kit. Stories from the road were posted on the Rapha blog, and the following year they got behind it. I can't say it was planned or intentional, but it's amazing to see it snowball from there.

  • No, but I just googled "london marathon GFA" and this page comes up:-

    https://www.tcslondonmarathon.com/enter/how-to-enter/good-for-age-entry

As they note, a GFA time that is less that 10 minutes under the qualifying time for your age group is on shaky ground. 2.50 would probably be safe (assuming you're a bloke under 40), 2.55 is no guarantee at all.

  • Nice one. I didn't make the Northerns, we just sent an A Team and if I'd been one of them I'd have had to run same as my last 5k to match the slowest runner we had, but I'm not in that shape now.

Top 19 teams all averaged sub 16 legs, top 2 15 min legs average. Rapid.

  • That looks like hard work. I'm running 5k pretty regularly but rarely want to put in that kind of effort. Well done.

  • Sounds to me like you did.
Hope to maybe follow in the footsteps.

In other news- got some new shoes and just had to trephine my big toe.
    Love doing that. Bye toenail...

  • Just pulled this out of the sole of my shoe - very glad it didn't carry on through into my foot!

  • Is the route well marked? Mrs Cookie is looking for some trail ultras, but she struggles navigating around our house…

  • I'm getting chafing on my inside thighs. Regardless of keks being worn or not. I tape my nipple's should I do the same to my thighs?

I feel like I've overshared here..
