  • Drinks on your team mates next time you see them!

    Good work.

  • Any tips for dealing with stinky running tops.. I have two in particular (both Nike) that start humming as soon as I wear them. I assume it’s recurrent bacteria not killed off in the wash. I’m washing as hot as the label allows.

  • I’ve got one that’s started doing that. Now occasionally wash with a dash of concentrated antiseptic and that seems to keep it fresh for a while.

  • I tend to hang them out to dry on the line before washing. Assume the dose of UV helps with the bacteria. None of my tops hum currently.

  • Halo sports wash or white vinegar

  • Hope so, I was designated car share driver so couldn't rinse the goodwill in the pub straight after...

  • Anyone tried or got the Zoomfly 5? I'm looking for a new daily runner and struggling to come up with something

  • I haven't but loving Puma Deviate Nitro 2 as a daily if you haven't considered it.

  • I don’t think I’d go for a posh carbon shoe as a daily. I like having something noticeably quicker for races, so stick with Pegasus or ASICS NovaBlast for most my miles atm

  • I didn't realise they were carbon...

  • Anyone run in Hoka clifton?

  • I've run 600 or so miles in the Clifton 7 and about the same in Clifton 8. Whilst I thought the Clifton 7 felt like a slightly better fit for me, I've never had any issues with either. I'm around 75kgs currently but was up to 82 at one point, both pairs are still perfectly useable. They're very cushioned which I did like, especially on days when I can't be bothered to stay on my forefoot!

I've done one marathon in each so perfectly good for longer runs too.

  • Thanks for replies re. stinky kit.. I’ve currently got one soaking in white vinegar solution so we’ll see how that fares.

  • I loved the feel of Clifton 7 but they tore at the arch - after about 600 miles so I shouldn't complain too much, but used to getting 1,000+ miles out of a good daily trainer. Currently in Saucony Ride 15, maybe not quite as cushioned but a nice ride and durability seems pretty good.

I've been enjoying a few different experiences at parkrun recently. A few double buggy runs (current buggy pb 19:23, on grass around Charlton Park), some volunteering (20 mins pacing, also Charlton Park) and most recently a proper non-buggy blast around Dulwich Park last week, which we used as our club 5k champs. (Whilst also putting forward some volunteers for the morning to keep everyone happy.) 16:53, my first sub-17 since becoming a dad. Pretty happy with that off the more limited mileage I've been doing.

This weekend is the Southern Relays at Aldershot. (Anyone??) I'm on the glory leg for the V50 team (4 x 6k). Hoping for a medal but no idea what the competition will be like.

  • That’s so fast for a buggy run! 16:53 is just ridiculous. How are you after something like that? I’ve never truly found my all-out effort on 5k and have generally hovered around 18min but would like to work on that once the marathon is out of the way.

  • Took a few days off with the lurgy and feel so, so much better today. Legs feel fresh, shins aren’t crying.

  • You should be quite a bit quicker with a pushchair, I'd have thought? I did 18.26 with a double, and that was the day after an evening fell race (back in the good old days)

Solo PB was just under 18, so I expect a few mins off that pushchair time please

  • How are you after something like that?

Pretty tired! But I've tended to find chasing PBs on a track 5,000m gets more out of me and I've needed a proper lie down afterwards. 5k/10k training is quite refreshing after a marathon, just a different type of pain if raced properly.

@doubleodavey - I was close to 19 mins "chip time" at Dulwich recently, starting too far back and working my way through. So definitely a lot to come off but I'll work on it! :)

  • I ended up going for a pair of Hoka Mach 5 after watching several reviews of The Run Testers.
Went out for a 10mile easy run and then finished with some strides. They were great. £80 from sportshoes.com so very chuffed

  • Nice, yeah looking forward to going after some shorter distance speed after this.
My current PB is 18:xx but that’s probably with something left in the tank - I’ve never managed to find the line of giving it everything without blowing up. Track sounds like a sensible place to try.

  • Glad you're enjoying them and that you got a good price on them too!

  • My challenge for the year is to run a half marathon every week. I'm generally coming in around 1:50 - 2 hours which is just fine for me - I've never been as fast as some of you lot but I'm very much enjoying it.

Today I hit number 40 which feels like a milestone in it's self. Currently dreaming about trying to do one every day for the last week (not before, too risky injuring myself when I'm so far through!). Also wondering what I'll do next year.

  • Congratualtions. Speed is all relative isn't it? Sub 2 hours is a very good time in my eyes :)

  • Thank you! Yeah it definitely is - I find the best run is the one where you get lost but somehow manage to get the distance home fairly perfect anyway. Those times fly past, I see new places and get to feel like there's an element of adventure to it.
