A fine pint of Guinness was had at Jonny Fox’s this week.
Boasting to be the highest pub in Ireland also the oldest. Not sure those statements are true, but locals and coach loads of tourists like it, because the place was packed.
Saw dust on the floor, every man made tool on display, relics from the past, framed photos of every famous visitor all pinned to the walls, live music, fine honest food, reasonably priced too and the staff just look like they enjoy working there.
Past presidents, prime ministers, monarchs and popes have all called in. It’s a fair climb on a bike from Dublin centre to reach this place.
I came across a Guinness 0.0 bar top pourer at a DUB airport cafe in departures... cans are printed, stored, chilled and dispensed upside down, it’s never going to taste like the real thing but not bad either.

Ha! wasn't till I scrolled down I realised you weren't talking about the bar at the top of the tower at the Guinness Brewery...
thought the bit about a fair old climb on a bike from Dublin was a bit oddA couple of years ago we had a fantastic long weekend in Dublin. Loved every minute except the Guinness tour which wasn't the brewery tour we were expecting but a museum... the pint at the end - in that bar I mentioned, was rather good tho

Thanks Ian, yes two different places.
Not had enough time to see Dublin outside of work which is predominantly on the outskirts of the city (Grange Castle and Leopardstown). Hopefully I can tack on a couple of days next time I am there -

Hoping to make this.

Arthur Guinness (c. 24 September 1725 – 23 January 1803) was an Irish brewer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. The inventor of Guinness beer, he founded the Guinness Brewery at St. James's Gate in 1759.
It’s time.. to add a few facts about this great man

Oh try the coffee guinness (cans) if you can find it..like an iced coffee and really creamy. Very odd for an alcoholic drink

Arthur Guinness was a deeply religious man whose personal motto was Spes Mea in Deo, Latin for "My Hope is in God". Although he never converted to Methodism during his life, instead remaining a member of the Church of Ireland, his diaries indicate that his faith was influenced by that of John Wesley and the Methodist model of evangelical social work.

The harp, which serves as the Guinness emblem, is based on a famous 14th century Irish harp known as the "O'Neill" or "Brian Boru" harp which is now preserved in the Library of Trinity College Dublin. The harp device has been synonymous with Guinness since 1862 when it was used as a symbol on the first bottle label for GUINNESS®. It was registered as a Guinness company trademark in 1876. It is because of the harp trademark that Guinness named its first lager 'Harp' in 1960.
The harp is also the official national emblem of the Republic. As Guinness had trademarked the harp symbol in 1876, the Irish Free State Government of 1922, had to turn the official government harp the other way to differentiate between the trademarked Guinness harp and the official State emblem. The distinguishing feature between the two harps is that the Guinness Harp always appears with its straight edge (the sound board) to the left, and the government harp is always shown with its straight edge to the right.

So a cold brew coffee beer from Guinness was had this evening at home in a coup glass after dinner. It was trying very hard to be an Espresso Martini. So I chucked in a shot of Kalhua for good measure. Ironically, now missing three small roasted coffee beans floating on the foam for completeness

It was trying very hard to be an Espresso Martini
How did it fare in this regard?
-
• #16
It ain’t no Espresso Martini.. but served ice cold, would be okay as a summer drink I suppose, Kalhua shot an optional extra methinks.
Not sure it works with a pint glass filled with ice then poured over the top, but I might try that..

The taste is more of coffee than real Guinness now that Guinness is served cold.
Not sure that the coffee flavour is real or just fake flavouring. But as almac said, maybe better with a few shots of kalhua and then there is no point imo. As I do like adding kalhua to many a drink.

doesn't look like i'm going to be able to make this after all...
i have my daughter all day saturday and she's too big for the bike seat now but too small to make this whole ride under her own steam (although i reckon she'd be well up for giving it a go...)

Do you want to borrow a tandem?
I've got two that should work
here is one of them. The other is a Dawes Voyager which is a much nicer ride. Haven't tried a CX race on it yet, but I imagine that it'd be much better

Great idea, and offer. You are a nice person.
@smiff bring small person we will entertain them...we will make them say daddy has wierd friends with cycles. We can bribe small person with Irish drinks like redaid and cidona. Cidona tastes like alcohol free cider. Also we will give them sugary sweets shake them and leave you with the aftermath.
We may promise that they will get puppies and kittens too. ;)

Ouch!
Heel up soon squire...Meanwhile, I made it to The Toucan 50 mins behind schedule. Shame weren't more of us but nice to catch up & the Guinness went down well. Cheers for the guin/coffee - haven't tried it yet.
Did about 45miles in total today & weather was sublime. Had a visit from the slow puncture fairy a mile from home so just rode almost flat.
Cheers for a good day Al
To celebrate the great man on his 298th birthday. Several stops planned throughout the afternoon.
