Dunno about anyone else, but I find 42s the best for roads around here given their state. I wouldn't want to ride anything less, and you're still in the Lord Jan Heine sweetspot of comfort and speed.

42mm is spot on, I’m just sore that there’s not much choices between Rene Herse and Grand Bois.

It’s road bikes that’re the con, not gravel bikes. “Oooh look at me, I’m so sleek and aero, look at my skinny tires, I’m so fast, check out my 54 tooth chainring, yeah, sexy, I weigh 8kg, ride me hard, you’ll be fast too”. Whatever fuckface I’m 40 and slightly overweight and I’ll never be particularly fast because I’m not super athletic and I’m scared of riding on A roads because all the drivers are fucking psychopaths, so how about I pootle around town on this nice comfy grav bike with the sweet gearing that lets me spin up the hills without having a heart attack, and with the big tires that let me take a sly diversion down a bridleway instead of having to go down that dual carriageway?

That said, I got a new bike and banged some 47mm 650bs on it and I’m setting PBs all over Stravatown.

Road bikes are optimized for drafting and falling off.

aesthetics is usually a moot point to anyone in the sort of tax bracket to purchase one of these, so we need not be suprised by its rather....challenging design languange

Panaracer Pasela folding 27.5 42mm is surprisingly comfortable and fast (despite not being tubeless ready), it more supple than the Gravel King with its horrendously stiff sidewall

Have you seen the Moots road bike with integrated cables? They make Pinarello look affordable.

Kona Sutra LTD as you have one what do you think? I’m looking for something that can take 12kg of camping gear and an old fat bloke 90km a day on rocky trails.
Importantly it has to be comfortable particularly on my old knackered wrists.

Honestly it sound like any steel bike that’s geared toward mulit-day ride will work for you, modern OTP bicycles are fairly durable, like the Trek 520.
