I don't really notice much difference with the level of support with mine, ymmv but how much of your forefoot is actually pushing down on the pedal during a stroke? I guess it also depends how stiff your soles are. I pedal in street shoes.
On the other hand they don't really weigh any more or cost any more than any other decent pedal, so what's the difference really. They do have low grip but that's just the flip side of not chewing up your shoe sole.
