  • Yeah, soy sauce use here would be second after tomato sauce I reckon.

tries to think of other sauces

  • Lingonberry confirmed

  • dark soy though, innit

  • I checked the internet and it told me "Soy sauce is a lot like wine. The longer it ages, the more interesting and complex its flavor." But even I wouldn't drink a bottle of wine that was opened more than 20 years ago.

I don't use a lot of soy sauce and I might reclaim this space in the cupboard.

  • If I chipped my way through the ice into my freezer I would probably find another Ötzi the iceman in there.

  • Gotta get the dark soy in too.

  • The jar of Juniper berries mentioned upthread:
with the passage of time, technology has made taking a photo,
    transferring it to a laptop
    and uploading so much easier.

  • As someone who was born in June 83 that's incredible.

How can you lot end up with this stuff, do you only cook beans on toast?

  • just waiting for the right recipe innit

  • That's remarkable.

I've just found some cloves from 2006 and a gravy cube with no date but it looks pretty old. It says 'no preservatives' on the pack but it's probably OK, right?

I don't use a lot of cloves or gravy cubes.

  • We’re at the in-laws while they’re away on on holiday, so this is sort of cheating. I thought I’d found a couple of gems but it’s turning out that at least 50% of what’s in the cupboards is at least 2-5 years out of date. The golden syrup jar is April 1993 but its newer replacement is 2010.

This is like me finding something in my gramps’s cupboard from rationing time in the early 1950s when I was small in the 80s.

  • That golden syrup will be just fine

  • Time for a slap up golden syrup supper

  • I've got some rolls of film that went out of date in the 60s if that counts. And we had a 2nd hand bottle of fish sauce that went out of date in 2010 until recently.

  • That golden syrup will be just fine

It’s solidified like yacht varnish. I didn’t know it did that!

  • Has the supersaturated solution further increased on concentration due to loss of moisture over the years,
    or,
has it actually cross-linked to form a continuous block of polymer?

  • OH just found and is working her way through a tin of Harrogate Toffees that went OOD in 2010. Assures me they're fine.

  • Found this in a box, will take it to dad drinks for someone brave!
