I've sent a letters page email in as a complaint. I don't have twitter so couldn't engage him on that platform but did read his last few entries. I noted how (quite rightly) proud he was of his niece, Clara and included this - "I happened to see his twitter page where he sings the praises of his young niece. Would he expect one of his readers to adopt his pledge and do this manoeuvre when she is riding a bicycle or perhaps overtake her in the swimming pool and dunk her head as they pass?"

Please can other people call the paper. Given so many comments supporting the piece they probably need to have direct complaints to reconsider it.
