How do editors allow this shit to be published?
-
• #84553
Some of them specifically ask for it. Obvious clickbait is obvious.
-
• #84554
Oh right. When I Google News the title it's only the usual hideous publications. Nothing credible is running it.
Amazing how insecure some of these people are. Sort of schrodingers nationalist - absolute faith in the supremacy of white Britons, while simultaneously being a bunch of fragile bedwetters.

Sad fuck. -

In my personal wellness plan I’ve now pledged to take a deep breath before gently edging out and around the cyclists and taking up a position directly in front of them. And then slowing right down to about two miles an hour.
I had a cycling club mate killed by a driver pulling this brake check trick. Absolutely sickening.

Might be worth writing to the paper to tell them this.

I have called and left a message

Have now spoken to the editorial team articulating my concerns and requesting the article be withdrawn and an apology made.
This is not the first complaint about the article. But I am sure more complaints won’t hurt

Well done. And sorry for the loss of your friend. It's an awful thing to have happened.

Well done

Thanks for doing that & sharing the info. Can't imagine how painful the memories reading that would resurface for family and friends.

Please can other people call the paper. Given so many comments supporting the piece they probably need to have direct complaints to reconsider it.

It also turns out that modern Brits are barely related at all to either the Mesolithic or Neolithic inhabitants of these isles, so if they're worried about their "racial purity" they're looking in the wrong place (and still wrong, of course). But I suppose it's the idea that non-white people did anything significant here that gets them.

modern Brits ... worried about their "racial purity"
Stuart Lee busted this though with his "Coming over here" sketch, no?
-
• #84566
I think that's it in a nutshell. In their heads it's clearly a zero sum game.
I had a quick look at the comments (I know), and lots related to that.
There is clearly something about discussions like this that make people feel like they are loosing something. The idea that if 'black people' have done something then it invalidates the pride they have taken on by association of 'white achievements'.
It seems odd to me that you can't, say think Brunel was impressive, and simultaneously find it interesting that current evidence points towards the original people of the British Isles having dark skin.
The angst of "rewriting history" is so frustrating. Even more so when we're talking about periods with so few sources.

I just don't get how John Smith over here, decended from Normans (Germanic) and Anglo Saxons (Germanic) is trying to be proud of some heritage from the bronze age and denying that he's the product of immigration. Bloody Beaker Folk etc

I've sent a letters page email in as a complaint. I don't have twitter so couldn't engage him on that platform but did read his last few entries. I noted how (quite rightly) proud he was of his niece, Clara and included this - "I happened to see his twitter page where he sings the praises of his young niece. Would he expect one of his readers to adopt his pledge and do this manoeuvre when she is riding a bicycle or perhaps overtake her in the swimming pool and dunk her head as they pass?"

New 20mph limits in Wales not going down well. 200,000 petiton and the Welsh conservatives getting behind the petition (who I assume are as bad as non welsh conservatives).
Image getting that upset that you have to drive a bit slower around vulnerable people.
What's an average car journey, about 3 miles or something isn't it, so at most, about 2 or 3 minutes longer. Presumably though there would be less slowing down at roundabouts etc as less bunching and all that?
I'd welcome a 20mph on my road, in fact I'm going to email the council now.

Ah, the old Henry Ford scenario.

And of course, the Welsh Conservative assembly members voted FOR it, with only one of them voting against.

Nobody answering now! Left a suitable outraged message.
McKenna is a typically preening WoS hack who usually writes shite about soft indy and generally how great Glasgow is. Pubs, Celtic and Me, not necessarily in that order. -

Had someone try to brake check a load of us on Col du Balham on the way home from work once.
Pulled up in the bike box at some lights just after Clapham Common. There's a Boxster behind, menacingly revving his engine. Other cyclists warning that the driver had been acting like a dick for quite a while. Anyways, he somehow over takes and gets in front, then towards the bottom of the hill, he slams on the brakes for no reason and whole load of us on bikes had to take evasive action. It really could have resulted in carnage and all because cyclists were using the infrastructure that had been put in place for cyclists.

For most of my car trips in 20mph areas the limit are junction throughput. Driving faster just gets you to the back of the queue faster. Spaniards Road in Hampstead is the best illustration.

Without enforcement it does very little.

When you strip out the non-Welsh signatories it’s standing at about 9% of the total population of wales. That’s a pretty decent chunk of votes to chase.
Nationally the average car journey is just over 8 miles with 58% of all car journeys being under 5 miles (2019 data from DfT). I’d wager an 8 mile trip in the near constant Welsh rain is putting a lot of people squarely in the car camp.
Clearly his click ratings have plummeted and he’s has a bollocking from his editor. Unimaginative, ignorant witherings of a cunt.
(I did type witterings, but I quite like the autocorrect in this instance)
