  • Decorating.
Tedious endless prep. Sugar soaping, scraping, filling, sanding, covering, taping off.
Then the actual painting. Undercoat, first coat, another fucking coat. Cutting in. Re-doing the cutting in bits where your hand slipped.
Washing brushes. Washing fucking rollers. Trying to clean up after gloss paint then giving up and throwing everything in the bin.
    Fucking horrendous.

  • Add other family members (young and old) leaning against a freshly painted matte wall with their greasy grubby hands despite telling them in no uncertain terms to "STOP PUTTING YOUR HANDS ON THE FUCKING WALL".

I am also in the "good intentions to clean oil based brushes and rollers but leaving it too long and having to bin everything" camp. I have recently discovered tray liners which make me feel a bit better, my internal argument being they are less wasteful than binning a whole tray or using gallons of water/white spirit to clean. Also, B&Q do a tray and liners that also come with a sealed lid for the tray. Gives a lot of time between coats without having to ditch and start again.

Which also limit the available time you can do decorating without interruption. All our decorating was done between 10pm-12am after work and kids bedtimes. Painting, esp white, is hard in artificial light. Fuck it, never going it again. Ever.
