I let most of the painting/DIY stuff build up until I can be bothered organising someone to come in and do it all in one go.
We're up to about 16 years now.
Flat needs rewiring. Means redecorating after chasing. Plus lifting carpets. May as well replace most of the carpets at the same time. Rewiring the kitchen is going to be very destructive, may as well look to refresh the kitchen at the same time. etc.
