  • Like a fine wine, this just gets better with age.

  • Not at all - they just feel like they're glued to my soles which I really like.

  • Such a great bike, and well photographed too.

My wife has these on her cross check and loves them. I have the studded ones (ordered from blue lug I think). The studs are good, if a tad too aggressive for my purposes. Overall, I just really like the length of these pedals for this sort of bike. Pretty sure I read about someone adding studs to these with a drill and tap but can’t remember where.

seems you can just drill and self tap

  • I saw these from eerdermetaal and might try them, I sometimes do have the feeling that some side support is welcome. Mostly have it when commuting in running shoes though.

  • why are these better than any modern MTB pedal?

  • Because they are made in Japan

  • There it is.

  • if you buy modern mtb pedals and grant peterson sees you, then you have to see yet another father figure disapointed in your life decisions

  • I have the hope v20 pedals, my wife now uses them. Between us they have done thousands of miles and still silky smooth. Good grip as well, I don’t know why I’d look elsewhere.

  • Serious answer - they have nice support and grip without destroying shoes. Modern mtb pedals are wonderful but they do not take kindly to a crepe sole.

  • Unpopular opinion: I really dislike the look of these MKS pedals.
Glad to read have functional benefits though.

    Me too!

  • Put the MTB version on my wife's new bike.
They are very cool. And very heavy.

I thought they might be a bit stupid, but now that I've seen the artisanal piece of aluminium to put on your Japanese nerd pedals I don't think they're that bad.

  • Because they are really quite long front to back, so there's a nice level of support under a lot of your foot, not just a big square in the middle of your shoe - IMO.

  • I don't really notice much difference with the level of support with mine, ymmv but how much of your forefoot is actually pushing down on the pedal during a stroke? I guess it also depends how stiff your soles are. I pedal in street shoes.

On the other hand they don't really weigh any more or cost any more than any other decent pedal, so what's the difference really. They do have low grip but that's just the flip side of not chewing up your shoe sole.

  • Autumn has also arrived in the Netherlands, so that means mudguard season. There will be a few challenges when trying to fit these, but let's see.

  • I think will look so good with mudguards:)

  • Like needing new brakes?

  • It's called opportunities.

  • I might have a 'hack' for that one...

  • Boo, Paul's cantis.
