  • From my very limited playtime it’s fine but I’m not really interested in playing it much at the moment. Can tell It’s a Bethesda game and I agree that the lack of space from what I’ve played is disappointing. Unless I’ve missed something the fact that space travel is just ‘open map, find planet, select jump’ is really crap compared to every space game I’ve played that has you at least pointing where you want to go and pressing a button to go to warp speed there. It might be something I pick up in winter when I’ve got nothing else to do.

  • Starfield.. I'm almost 3 days playtime worth.

Do not just open map, find planet, jump. You will miss all sorts of random stuff in space. Esp. Space Grandma!

Wander around, talk to every one with a real name, random npc's will just say stuff that will start more quests. def. get to Into the Unknown main quest done (won't explain why as spoiler).

I've been a pirate, a miner, and space cowboy so far.

That all said, there's a shit load of fixes to come so if you aren't really into bethesda games perhaps wait (it's on gamepass though!). It's also weirdly pretty bug free, yeah there's the usual things like npc staring at wall, or physics being odd but it's mostly crash free

  • I've seen it referred to as Starefield due to the NPC's expressions sometimes. They've used some AI facial mapping thing which is mostly good but does produce funny results sometimes

  • I think I'm about 30 hours in. Many of them trying to find planets with certain biomes then giving up. I'm enjoying it, easy to jump in and out of but the loot/weight restrictions are driving me a bit crazy.

  • You can fix that with the weight lifting perk, and some attire has + weight carrying.

Biggest thing for me though was to use the space shop cargo to carry stuff, and to store stuff in your 'base' room storage etc.

    Sell anything else.

  • Yeah I've got a couple levels of weight lifting and a ship with a 400 capacity. But I'm still doing constant trips back to the Lodge to dump resources.

  • I'm definitely a fucking hoarder on these kind of games, they're trying their best to change that. Giving shit to your companion helps but you can't take everything anymore.

  • Lost meme opportunity with Gandalf.

  • I've seen it referred to as Starefield due to the NPC's expressions sometimes.

The reviews by veteran Bethesda players who are entirely used to Bethesda eccentricities but still lose their shit and shout at the screen at times have been very funny. Reminds me of the dude who reviewed Fallout 76 and described the (terrible and anaesthetised) combat as feeling "like throwing peanuts at Jason Momoa".

  • I've been a pirate, a miner, and space cowboy so far.

Some call me the gangster of love, some people call me Maurice…

  • I only found out recently you can play 3rd person too, which is more enjoyable I find, both on foot and in the spaceship.

  • Is there any way I can get the benefits of amiibos without having to track down the bloody things?

It seems you can get them in NFC form or similar which I'm open to. But can you get lots of them on a single device? Or do you need to manage a card wallet or similar?

  • For a moment I thought you said "NFT form" and I just thought "Well, no manner of crypto craziness would surprise me at this point."

  • iirc you can find the codes online and then write them to an nfc sticker or tag and it functions as if it was that amiibo

  • Have had a bit more time on Starfield since getting back from holiday and I'm a lot more positive about it now. I've worked out it is possible to travel without needing to go into the map every time, which for me makes it feel much more fluid and like I'm actually connected to piloting the ship so that's good. Find the music brilliant when it comes in at the right times, I like the combat (on ground, haven't really got to any space combat yet) and the more I've now played it the more things have started to make sense. I still haven't had any particularly special moments of awe/excitement that I've had with other space games but I'm currently doing an introduction to astronomy course and some bits I've learnt from that have been referenced here and there in the game which has been nice. Might all get a bit samey and tedious eventually but for now I like it and keep thinking about playing it whilst doing other stuff.

Not necessarily a Starfield thing but I do wish that there was a Universally agreed button for Menus/Inventory/Map stuff though. I'm playing in far third person and the amount of times I've switched to first person when wanting to check my inventory/map/skills is far too high.

  • Same lol

  • Picked up Assassins Creed Black Flag on the PS5, after an hour I gave up the controls just drove me nuts. Run in a straight line then for some reason I'm climbing a wall, from which no matter how much smashing of buttons doesn't get me down from the wall.

    Was it always like this?

  • Go on ebay and you can NFC cards that they've cloned all the amibo for. I got a bundle of them back in the day for breath of the wild, I want to say like ten quid for every zelda related one. Def worth it (I was shit at combat and it gave you the good shit).

  • Was it always like this?

Not exactly, no. The first game didn't really have this problem because much less was climbable (and, as I recall, you had to hit an extra button to start climbing or you'd just be running up against a wall). In the Ezio series there was more to climb but you could move quickly without free-running, which is the state where you're seeing this problem. You had to hold down two buttons for full free-running. In AC 3 they simplified it to just the one button and you had to learn to be more careful or find yourself hanging uselessly from a wall you just meant to run past. Black Flag only made minor changes to the aC 3 gameplay. Unity added more control again and so on and so on.

Because they kept making minor or major changes to the mechanics with each new game in the series, even veteran AC fans usually need to take a little time to adjust to each new game so they don't spend time hanging from walls while their objective vanishes into the distance or the timer ticks down. So even I don't know to what extent I'm agreeing or disagreeing with @sumo .

That said, if you're unable to drop from the position you ended up in, you either climbed to a position where there's no safe route down (in which case really mashing the drop button or doing a wall eject will get you free quickly although possibly into more trouble) or you encountered a bug.

Don't ask two AC fans which game had the best parkour controls. You'll hear at least three answers and start a fight.

  • Anyone in this thread on the vinyl thread? Might be interested in this site: https://www.lacedrecords.co/products/quake-2-limited-edition-deluxe-double-vinyl

Pre-ordered the instant it was announced. I remember taping the soundtrack - you could play the game disc on a CD player - and listening to the soundtrack on walkman and in the car 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

  • I was a Doom kid growing up - the Mick Gordon 2016 remake soundtrack still goes on when i've got to get stuff done.

  • What are you after? You can get the Zelda, Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing amiibo cards on eBay. They take up a lot less space than the real thing and cost a lot less too.

Edit: @photoben beat me to it!
