Luckily our architect lives on our street with a house on the same side of the road.
Hopefully she'll know what's necessary and how big an issue it may be.
We were considering some kind of pergola thing over the patio that we could grow wisteria/passion flowers over anyway which might provide some shade (and privacy).

Assuming neighbours don’t have an extension - eaves height on the party wall boundary will probably be the key constraint in my experience. Really annoyingly seems all councils have their own expectations. I’ve had everything from 2.6 - 3m. It’s why most side return infills are pitched.
