  • I sold my pair ages ago and bought a rega. I was fucking stupid it appears.

  • I've been team technics for many years but got given a Rega Planar 3 and I use that and SL1200 now. The Rega has something about it.

  • Direct drive and pitch control would be a bonus right now. The whole change the platter nonsense is a nonsense when I want to "pitch it up you jazzy cunt".

  • Sounds like you need an SL1200 in your life.

  • No pitch control. Minimal gains too.

  • Probably not audiophile, but I'm very much enjoying the sound from my system at the moment. The Mordaunt-Short's are a recent addition and love the sound from these speakers.

  • No pitch control

It's on the power supply. If you could afford the £20k for that, you'd probably buy a brand new one right?

  • Nice. What's the turntable?

  • Garrard SP25 Mk3.

  • So I’ve recently been buying tapes for my campervan but want to listen to them at home, because Luddite.
My boss has just given me this, but I don’t currently own and amp, speakers or any other hifi equipment.
What’s the minimum I need to get my crackle and hiss on?

Obvious answer is to painstaking assemble the period correct matching bits but that’s not a rabbit hole I’m willing to go down yet.
Bare bones budget options to get me going?

  • I would put some wireless headphones in there and check it's playing ok. If the belts have gone you might not want to take on the repairs.

After that you could get a small class d amp and some speakers or some powered speakers.

The other audiophile thread is a bit more active.

  • Nice one. Luckily my boss is a massive hifi dork and has assured me it’s running just fine so that’s one less thing to worry about at least.

  • Nice deck.
TBH any Bluetooth speaker with a line-in will do.
Tons to choose from out there for all budgets.

  • Oh really? So to get started I don’t need an amp or anything, just a line-in speaker?
    Great news.

In an ideal world I’d acquire a small boombox but not gonna turn down the gift from the boss.

  • Just need the right lead - rca line input

  • Ah yeah, rca to 3.5mm I presume?
Wow, I was expecting that to be far more of a faff 🤷‍♂️

  • I've had a pair of Linsoul (?) T2s for three years and one of them has finally given up the ghost.

Wondering if I should get the same since I technically have a "spare", now, or if three years is pretty much EOL for a cheapish earbud and I should just go with something else, in which case what would people recommend at the ~£50 price point

  • Not an ear buds fan but I've used this website when buying tech before and I haven't been disappointed with their recommendations - https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/best/wireless-bluetooth-earbuds-in-ear-headphones

  • Bit late to the party. LS6s should work very well eith Naim amps. Linn Kans- sort of 3/5a clones were very musical and exciting. That was with a Nait 3 mind. I used AVI Biggatrons for a while. They sounded fantastic. Don't see them much these days and when you do, they always seem to be in black ash finish but, hey! that might be your taste?

  • Pioneer pl200. Are they generally ok? They seem reasonably priced and have 33/45 direct drive and a pitch control…

  • Technics sl1800 or 1600?? Can sometimes get them on the bay at a good price you can also pitch it up you jazzy cunt

  • The 1300-1500 have a better tone arm and are pretty much the same price. They've got 4 rubber grommets that the suspension sits in, that have a habit of rotting if not stored well. Just something to be mindful of.

  • Collaro turntable mats. Has anyone had one? Why is the black one £20 dearer? Thanks!

  • I’m not after a 20k-40hz -3db speaker, Kan’s/5a’s are great, Had Rega Kytes back in the day/Neat Critique and currently Leema xero’s all good but not Harbeth/spendor good.
Friend has some Biggatrons but i’m after spending more and getting more and then not buying speakers again..
