  • There is a genius listing a Niquel edition for 4K 🤪 still regret selling mine for £900 mostly because it was a great frame finish that would clean up easily

  • I have a 6spd explore c-line - I wouldn’t want to trek around carrying it, but why I would I when I could ride the bike? If you have to carry a lot and for a long period time then maybe Ti/P-line makes sense, but otherwise it just feels like weight wienery

  • P line is nice except the 4 speed isn’t great, they have worked hard on it, the wheels are pretty light

  • P for pricey. Would still consider one on CycleScheme or similar. I'm no weight weenie but do like a good saving, and try to avoid putting on heavier components if I can help it. Here's some changes that I made to my Brompton that shed some weight to the hefty, micro beast.

    • Swap Stock tyres - I had the standard wire-bead Brompton Kevlar (420g each?) and now run Conti Urban Contacts (folding, 275g) and sometimes wire-beaded Schwalble Kojak's (220-ish g). More for speed and ride feel.

    • Super light front wheel - Only did this swap after running my stock wheels for many years. No massive weight savings, but still something and it makes the ride feel nicer.

    • Saddle - The Brompton Saddle never agreed with me, to the point I went for a much heavier Brooks B17. More recently I'm running a much lighter (and cheaper) Charge Spoon.

    • Pedals - I know some people love the folding pedals and the small profile it lends to, but I don't. Poor grip and a small platform for many shoes/feet. I swapped my pedals not for weight, but saved a bit along the way. There's potential here.

Then there are some areas I added weight on. Changing things like the rear triangle, seatpost etc. can get a lot more costly, which is why I've steered clear.

  • I would say the thing to consider more may be the gearing between the two. If you want to cut out weight and that's the top priority, just get the P-Line. You'll spend a fair amount of cash and time on all the other components, seat post, pedals, ect that by the time you've done all that you still won't have shaved off as much weight from a standard C-Line Explore and probably spend close to what it cost for the P-Line anyway. I have the C-Line Explore and find it heavy to carry when folded. It's easy for me to put it on my shoulder and carry it fully built.

  • Pretty much what everyone has said above, the biggest weight factors is the external hub, pedals, BB, seatpost and stock tyres.

Here is my MK1 CHPT3 (2 speed) and weighs 7.9kg.

  • Are those stock roller wheels? Shocked face

  • Stock-ish, but they do the job.

  • Lovely bike it would be great to get a little summary of the changes and upgrades and how you rate them.

  • P line is nice except the 4 speed isn’t great

wasn't there an easy hack to bring them to 5sp? think some on here have done it

  • I did that 5 spd mod detailed on reddit - has been solid, done >1000km since.
Nicer to use a shimano cassette than the OEM

  • I'm not quite sure how this works, but... 🤷

  • When I imaine what insta is full of, it's shit like this and people with fucked up faces covered in too much makeup.

  • Is a Pline a 4 speed with Ti fork and triangle? Or are there lots of light parts?

  • My seat clamp is failing. Should I buy a stock replacement or is there a better aftermarket alternative?

  • I’d definitely start with checking the sleeve. It’s such a cheap fix that can lead to such an expensive problem (cracked frame).

  • Wow. Fair play to them, they seem to have properly thought through the design.

Shame it's >£2k, but nice to see the innovation compared to Bromptons of old.

  • My seatpost has started slipping down as well, couple of cm's from where I set it, and the seatpost has taken to turning in the seat tube. Is that a sleeve replacing or should I just tighten the seat clamp. I haven't fucked with the seat clamp at all since purchasing..

  • The clamp is loose, not tight so I assumed it was the clamp itself, which looked like it had play in it. Might have to book it into Compton Cycles for a check over.

  • Thanks, that’s much more attractive than the plastic version. Might invest in one anyway.

  • I got an aliexpress replacement assembly, it's fine but fiddly to install and I wouldn't say it's an overall improvement on stock.
