I love it. How's the coffee? Is it a super jolly?

I come cheap (he says)

It is a super jolly yes. Coffee is great (although I’d definitely be curious to have something to compare it against). It has a nice fine adjustment and retention is very low if you blow it out with one of those rubber rocket blowers. Considering it owes me about £90, and they can be had for cheapish, I think they’re a great option. They are a bit of a unit - take up about as much space as the classic beside it.

Has anyone got any thoughts on super jolly single dose mod vs niche zero?
I suspect the super jolly is likely to be 50-100£ cheaper and likely much easier to source parts for?

I had a super jolly off eBay and then the Daniel Wong mod. Had it for about 9 months and in the end got fed up of the camera blower + spraying fines around my worktop as a consequence.
Totally see why many people are very satisfied with it but I took a chance with the new big timemore on kickstarter and sold the SJ off.
If I had the same money again I’d look instead for a Eureka probably or try and stretch to the Niche but YMMV

Been looking for some decent coffee near me since I moved to France, google maps has been pretty shit but I found a few places. Last week actually found a roaster on my road, most things are around the 10/12 euro mark for a 250g bag but their top selection stuff was 22 euros a bag, now that's way spenny and not gonna be a regular thing but it is fucking banging.

Free espresso machines up for grabs if you're prepared to do a bit of faffing/subscribe to beanz.com
I spotted Kev's coffee blog has a discount code for Sage machines, so have bought a new Bambino (others are available in the promo) for the princely sum of £195. Sage currently have a cashback deal on, which means if you subscribe to beanz.com for coffee, they give you £50 cash for every 20 bags you buy up to a maximum of £200. If you buy two bags a fortnight (perfectly reasonable), it'll take you 80 weeks to get the £200 back. The promotion is running for 18 months, so with a bit of a tweak to the subscription in the last month or so, you should be able to hit that magic 80-bag figure.
If I do this right, effectively they'll have paid me a fiver to buy a coffee machine.

Don't suppose anyone's got a Porlex grinder they don't use anymore? My ceramic inner burr has finally given up the ghost and I can't seem to find one in the UK at the moment... I think I've got the first version, not the II... PM me if you can help!!! Thanks!

I’d use this as a perfect excuse to upgrade to something significantly better tbh. Grinders have moved on a lot from ceramic burrs.
-
• #24812
Hmmm, I thought about that actually but can't really afford it right now... hence why I've just been looking for the burrs

I could post you my old hario if you want?

Perfect! I love seeing those being reused in the wild. Nice to see someone using it for wholesome storage purposes too.

Very much appreciated but I think I'm going to take your advice and upgrade... I have had the porlex for about 7 years so it's had a good run!

Managed to find a cheap good condition super jolly off ebay - does anyone have a doseless kit/mod they're trying to get rid of?

Thinking of selling my cubika machine. Anyone interested or not worth it for the aficionados here

I offered mine and got nil interest. Lol.

Cut the handle off one of these, and cut a hole in it. That’s what I did. There’s loads of kits available on Etsy etc if you CBA with the DIY.

Enjoying mine after @Nef and others recommended it. For anyone looking to dip their toes in espresso for cheap I highly recommend taking @Overuser155208 up on their offer

I still rate mine, and I reckon they were built really well. Got plenty great shots!

The timemore boat docked in port yesterday. 🤗
Problem is that talk of the several kg of seasoning needed for the 078S has put me off slightly.
-
• #24825
Nice! Was yours in the first batch? Yea the seasoning sounds like a royal pain
It came with the rubber camera hood to make a funnel. I place a tamper in the top to prevent popcorning. Previous owner (bought off here, would need to double check who, TTM?) had replaced the burrs. I made the chute/funnel out of a pancake doser and just taped over the exposed bits (with the plan to replace with something more significant but several years later nothing has changed).
