There must be some kind of lever-action rubber compression fitting available somewhere, along the lines of a schraeder valve adaptor on a track pump?

How about a round wire lock pin, or trailer hitch pin type thing?
Not sure about the available dimensions and whether the loop would interfere or not.

Here is my attempt to recreate the bagman quick release at the front, the mounting is easier than I expected but threading on the nut for the quick release skewer is slower than the original.
Is there some kind of push on lock thingy for a 5mm threaded rod?
