• Seat recommended a cambelt change at 5 years / 50k miles for my engine (1.4tsi VAG). Was booked for Monday, however dealer now says Seat recommended 15 year intervals.

Seems like quite a jump, fine to cancel and save the money?

  • I went round and round in circles online looking at the cambelt / timing chain replacement for my 1.4tsi VAG (mk6 Golf).

There seemed to be quite a few instances of skodas having much longer intervals than VW, and also non-UK countries having longer intervals.

  • Cambelt: 15 years, (no mileage figure), seems optimistic
Camchain: properly tensioned at each service, might be possible.
(I'm cam-conscious: a previous diesel Renault Espace threw a cambelt on the M6. Vehicle wasn't worth the engine rebuild cost).
