Good that innit? I happened to notice it was disabled on the kitchen system - so much better now.
-
• #12653
Yeah, i wasn't expecting such a difference - the standard setting must really alter the frequency range if even I notice it! "omg this one simple trick will change your life"

You got the Ojas speaker, I got the Ojas T-shirt...
also expensive.Be good to have more detail on the sound profile once you've had them a while.

haha, i'll be honest - the first few times I seen "CCA" in the hifi sense I wondered what mystical probable snake-oil based product people were referring to... took a while to realize it was the humble yet indispensible chromecast audio.
On that note, wish google would bring out somethign like the amazon one (which gets decidedly mixed reviews...)

That's what the WiiM Mini and WiiM Pro are for.
-
• #12659
Yeah the wiim pro ticks pretty much all the boxes - I do like the form factor of that Amazon one though

Considering getting rid of my Cambridge Audio AM5 Topaz and the Sx50's and going towards something pre-amped like them you have for sake for simplicity, connectivity and power consumption also could have them in my workstation desk if I want.
Got plexmedia server running too which I can't be bothered to get a streamer for it and my raspberryPi is atm doing other more useful things.
Got a huge digital library, and a fiio x3mkii that does DAC on my phone l, PC and also hires player, the physical stuff is back home can't justify going this route, unless someones sugests me something enlighting.

Is there any gizmo that you can add to an old amp that allows remote controlled volume adjustment?
-
• #12662
So much wrong with this set up, but it's different to how it was and really enjoying. I do think sometimes just shifting things around can can refresh the way you listen to things.
Haven't had a turntable up on these before, got an ifi zen phono in between and it's nice to these ears.

If you just put curtains behind the speakers and move them bit forward will massivly improve freq reflections. Glass behind is the worse....
-
• #12664
Yup, this was pretty much exactly what I was alluding to!
I think I'll probably find a way to move the speakers to the wall along the left - but then they're on the long axis in a long room. There's no winning really.
-
• #12665
Or on stands just ahead of that unit?
-
• #12666
There's pretty much no room - door out to the balcony on the left, wall/bookcase on the right. I do think I'll go stands either side of the TV on the long wall - have to run cables over the door for that though.

If you're planning on streaming via Chromecast etc. then you can generally use the streaming interface to control the output volume, not sure if such a thing exists for other sources though

Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Analogue would do the trick if you can fit it into your signal path

This. I have my amp volume (physical dial) perma-rolled up just over half way, then control output volume from mac / phone / whatever bluetooth source is in control. Might not be the most audiophile solution, but works well for me...

You could integrate some sort of preamp as suggested, but only really makes sense if your amp can be run as only power amp.
And there are volume control knobs with remote on eBay you could probably fit into your amp, but might be too much work and make sound worse.

Did the amp once come with an IR remote?
A lot did... I'd shoot for a cheap universal remote from Amazon.
-
• #12672
Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'll look into the options. It is an old Technics SU-V450 amp with no IR
-
• #12673
You could put a volume control on the tape monitor I think.

I know it's not a popular opinion but to my eye you can't beat the look of a 1200... I have 2 x mk II's and a GR.
