  • 3rd party recommendations for an iPhone 11 battery or should I stick with official apple store?

  • Is it lame? Now all phones pretty much use the same cable to charge, which is also the same cable cameras, bike computers and a bazillion other gadgets use.

  • I actually hate my mini.
    Too small to type on.
    Poor battery.
    Crap camera.

  • Just buy ankers, cheaper than apple and just as good.

  • Good point and I should do that. I wonder if its different because I pay for Google Apps/G Suite/whatever its called now.

  • Anyone up for sharing a family iCloud account of 2TB?

I can’t be the only one with 200GB iCloud subscription who reached the limit and now my phone hasn’t been backed up for a month.

I can’t justify upgrading to their ridiculous 2TB tier which is 3x more expensive, knowing that my current back up is about 210GB.

I don’t really have friends or family I know of that I could join so looking to team up with someone.

Either joining someones account or me inviting 1-2 people to join me and split the cost evenly.

    I wouldn’t require more than 500GB.

    Let me know if interested.

  • Anybody used an electric air duster rather than cans of compressed air, which they can recommend?

I've never liked the environmental impact that cans of compressed air produce, thus haven't bought one for years. But, how I've a laptop which desperately needs blasting!

  • Other than recycling via electronics recyclers, what do people do with old devices, particularly iphones? Found a box in a cupboard with half a dozen old ones that seem functional so a shame to scrap them.

  • Gumtree/eBay if function well or if older and questionable for real use I take them back to Apple shops in the hope they get more responsibly recycled.

  • Generally I leave them in a box in a cupboard until they progress to a box in the loft. Arguably not a perfect solution.

I did try to ebay an old iphone but that just ended with me losing money so back to the box it went.

  • That's been our solution at work too. In honestly 2 or 3 of them are old devices of mine I left as spares "just in case"

  • Probably not a great idea to do this with a stranger. The person that administers it has a lot of power. It’s called ‘family sharing’ for a reason

  • Could put it on ebay as a job lot and for a tenner or two depending on the models. Plenty of people looking for spares and e-waste recycling is not very efficient / really “recycling” in most circumstances.

  • Morning all. Two quick questions -

    1. Does an MacBook Air have ‘find my MacBook on it’?
    2. If so, is this function automatic or does it need enabled?

    Thanks

  • Yes, on by default but you can turn it off during setup and anytime after in settings.

  • Just for completeness. Bought a screen for 180 quid off ebay and fitted it in about an hour following the instructions from ifixit (already had the relevant tools). Pretty straightforward job all things considered.

Wrong colour for the casing, so now I have probably the only two-tone macbook pro.

  • Thanks for that. Much appreciated

  • I donate them to charity - there are a number that use them for people who would otherwise not have access to phones or through selling them

  • I am aware of that.
I'm asking on here knowing that most people know me and I know them.

I wouldn't go in to this with a stranger.

  • asked this in a photography software thread, but asking here as well
Would like to send a link to them of the selected images, and give them the option to download any that they like. Would like the gallery to be nice to view the images in ideally, rather than the folder system on google drive say..
Is there a particular site I should be looking for (did a quick google, got confused, most seem to want you to subscribe), should I just upload to flickr (I have a flickr pro account) and send from there?
    I'm thinking it'll be 20-30 pictures max.

    Any ideas let me know

  • Yeah, and Oxfam (for example) will also pass any older/broken phones on to recyclers and that can also generate some money for Oxfam.

    https://www.oxfam.org.uk/donate/more-ways-to-donate/recycle-with-us/

I've got about 10 old phones (back to old Nokias) that I need to get rid of, none of them are worth selling on eBay.

    (Other charities are available.)

  • You can create a shared folder in (iCloud) Photos, and make it publicly accessible. It will generate a link for browser viewing/downloading.

  • hmmm, I do not use icloud for photo's (have too many of them) if I did this might have to purchase extra storage or that family icloud account.

  • Maybe film props ;)

  • should I just upload to flickr (I have a flickr pro account) and send from there?

Does flickr pro allow you to send (access to) a folder where folk can view stuff without ads?
If yes that sounds like a good option to me..
