  • i've seen a woman walking (or rather being dragged by) one of these big muscular dogs on my commute a few times recently, before the latest attack hit the news.
    it looks as if she has barely any control over it.
    this is on a shared use path that has lots of school kids walking, running, scooting along it at the same time.
    i'm always a bit wary when passing as i don't want to startle it or give it any reason to chase me.

    Unless you’re regularly winning scratch races at the velodrome, or are sprinting downhill, I’d wager the chances are close to zilch (not zero because the dog could always trip).

    Edit - realised you’re talking about outsprinting a bully dog. That’s more feasible, given their approx 25 mph sprint speed. Other big hunting breeds are faster, and accelerate quicker, than most cyclists.
