A continuation of their ongoing anti-cycling rhetoric. Ignore it; it's bullshit.

Plans afoot to ban a particularly terrifying breed of dog that has killed at least one person in the UK (Child, 10).
Interesting quote from an owner:
"My boy Odie hears a child crying and its ears perk up and it wants to go and calm this child down," she said.
"I don't see why people need to ban him, why not ban all the little Jack Russells that like to bite. >Why ban one dog because someone doesn't like it.
She said that she was "tired of the stigma against XL bullies".
Mmmm.

and its ears perk up
Or at least they would if the owner hadn't sliced them off to make it look even more terrifying.

Was forwarded a video at work with an XL bully attacking a child then an adult. A 2nd (adult) man takes a shovel to the dog and it doesn’t stop attacking the other person.
Haven’t heard of a Jack Russell going berserk and mauling multiple people.

Quite.
-
• #84210
True. But if you have multiple Jack Russell's then they will attack and can kill small children. They are a pack bread by nature.
You always hear this shit from dog owners. The fetishise their own dog's myths. "my X was used by the Romans/Mongols for winning wars/babysitting, etc.".
It's no different to any other hobby really. Except that they do it with living beings that can fuck up other living beings.

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that sausage dogs are responsible for the most injuries p/a.

People say my dog's ancestors were bred as show dogs meant to entertain rich people but I've spent the last week trying to teach her to walk through my legs and still half the time she looks at me like she's never heard the word "through" in her life

Maybe she thinks it's a shit game?
Take it to a children's softplay and chuck a load of doggy treats in.
-
• #84214
definitely possible but she'll jump through literal hoops for a treat so I know the motivation is there

Tripping over them?! 😂

Plans afoot to ban a particularly terrifying breed of dog that has killed at least one person in the UK (Child, 10).
Someone was on the radio this morning insisting it wouldn't do anything because of the (can't quite remember the numbers) c.400 dog attacks last year, only c.90 of them were by these horrible things.
All I heard was that banning them would instantly remove c.25% of the dog attacks in the country.

I agree with your point, though all dogs are pack animals. All canidae are, afaik.
As a rule, a small child shouldn’t be left unattended with any dog because of the risk of severe injury. When a dog is so dangerous that other dogs or even multiple adult humans sustain life changing injuries from sudden unexplained attacks, that dog should be put down. When there’s repeated attacks by a specific breed of dogs, that breed should be banned. Let existing owners keep their pet, if they’re controllable, but stop the cycle.

stop the cycle.

I just remember speaking to a barrister, who's first case was where a pack of Jack Russells jumped over the wall and killed a baby in a pram.
Iirc the owner was liable as they should have been aware that having that number of JRs was dangerous.

What does a ban mean in practice? Anyone who owns an XL bully will have to put them down?
-
• #84221
Here are the current banned breeds: https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs
Also lists what happens to existing dogs of those banned breeds.
(I just googled "banned dog breeds in the UK" and looked for a gov.uk link)

You all ready for emissions based parking charges?

B&NES already has a clean air zone, so I imagine most cars parking are lower emissions anyway.
Edit: I should have said B&NES has a clean air zone for Bath city centre and that sign is inside the zone.

Labradors will try to retrieve stuff
Greyhounds like to run
Terriers hunt for rats
Fighting dogs like to fightWe spent hundreds of years perfecting these traits and are surprised when they do what they were bred for.
A fighting dog did this to my dog 3 weeks ago, it was trying to kill him.
It attacked without any warning.
I’m nearly 6foot tall 85kg and reasonably fit and only just won the fight. I was fighting to win.
I now see large fighting dogs and judge whether I’d beat it in a fight, I see at least one a day I wouldn’t be confident about.
