Because you can refill a tank in a few mins

And ice cars tend to have a range of >400 miles, while many EVs will be under 200 miles on 70 mph motorway journeys in cooler weather.
Also, petrol/ diesel is treated as critical infrastructure - the army get called out if there are distribution issues. Charging networks are still just an assortment of private operators. It’s still possible to roll into a services off a main motorway and find that none of the chargers are working - so now you’re hoping that you can make the 25 miles to the next services. Maybe getting less common, but it’s the kind of thing that highlights the differences in how ice and EV are treated

I’d love to know how many trips they do over that length. Also, if they get a charger at home, they never need to visit a petrol station for 99% of trips.
You can always guilt trip them with the poisoning of the planet for their grandchild etc.

Oh it's a completely irrational fear of things you dont know (about).

It's the primary reason I didn't/couldn't buy an EV (I bought a new car today 🦕🦖), I need 500km range to drive a client home to his family four or five times a year. But TBF I also need a 4x4 (not an AWD) and that electric option simply doesn't exist at the moment.
It's disappointing.

On.to have gone into administration.
Have a service booked on Wednesday so will be interesting to see how that goes -

It's a shame as short term car availability (especially EV only) could be great for reducing long term car ownership.
Unfortunately, the arse has fallen out of EV values so they're sitting on a massive pile of debt / reduced value of assets at the same time as loads of people are re-evaluating their spending habits.
Having said all that, more than £500 a month for a Renault Zoe is daylight robbery and if they couldn't make a profit out of that then fuck 'em :D.
-
• #1609
Yeah - that’s a real shame. Be interesting to see if it means a wider change to the subscription market, or if it’s just down to the way they operated.
I had heard that last year they were making money on the cars as their used resale value was higher than their purchase cost.

My parents bought a 2022 Renault Zoe from Cazoo, earlier this year, for about £19k.
You can now get a similar mileage one with the same spec for around £14k.
On.to have 7,000 cars.

Yep, I can imagine their model was loans against the fleet. When the cars were appreciating then money was cheap. Then caught out with how far and how fast values have fallen.

I was going to cancel my subscription at the end of this year when my grandfathered rate finishes.
As much as I enjoyed the flexibility that they offered, the new pricing has made it unviable for me.
I saw on the email that they are taking enquiries regarding purchasing so it’ll be interesting to see what deals they’re offering . -

I am enjoying this route planning app for EVs - https://abetterrouteplanner.com/
(I don't have one, but am curious)
-
• #1614
I assume other lease fleets will hoover them up but I'll be at the auction if they go to public sale
-
• #1615
Maybe drop them an email. They’re definitely selling vehicles straight away.

What's with these stories the keep popping up about outrageous insurance premiums?

Aren't the majority of evs insanely fast and full of expensive parts that are impossible to replace?
-
• #1618
Slightly concerned about my wife’s renewal on her car, paid circa £400 for each of the last three years. Quick search looks like it will possibly be double+ come renewal.

No opportunity to trade down from a 2litre to a 1.6 in EV world.
Don't they all do 0-60 in 3 seconds? -

The Citroën Ami doesn't.
Saw one on the road last week.

Agreed
A mate in south west France has one for his two teenage children.
They can, legally, drive it on moped licenses as it is classed as a 'four wheel' something-or-other, not a car. -
• #1622
Hmm:
says David, whose only change in circumstance was three points on a licence.
My insurance (Yaris hybrid) has not far doubled this year and that's a car that doesn't accelerate quickly and is all easily replaceable parts.

Ours jumped 20% everything keeps getting more expense as the country falls apart

If his mates don’t nickname him “Keanu”, I will be disappointed.
I really don't get this; all cars, be it electric or fossil fuel, have a range limit. Why do old people worry about electric ones when they didn't consider this a problem at all with their current car?
