yeah... thinking I might have a go at cleaning it up & putting some clear lacquer/nail polish over the areas. wondering if it's worth getting some "gun blue" to apply before the lacquer, or not worry so much...

ah, that's a good shout, just wrestled it a bit & the guard popped into the inside of the bridge - think that'll help!

Probably only way to do anything meaningfull to stop the corrosion on the bridge would be to strip, clean, prime and paint it with something with anti corrosive properties.
In the meantime, spray framesaver/Dinitrol inside all the rear frame tubes and get on with life? I’m pretty sure the rear guard on both of our bikes sits inside of the bridge rather than stopping right on it, can you play around with the position of the mount at the brake at all to make this happen as it means the water runs past the bridge rather than onto it?
