And The Sopranos had women doing things other than being strippers or being tortured. In fact, most of the female screentime is women being neither of those things. Mayor of Kingstown cheerfully goes for whole series with barely seconds of women being anything other than the victims of abuse; half of the first series is about a stripper/prostitute being abused, degraded and tortured. The showrunners aren't trying to make any point there beyond the idea that men frowning as if constipated is a strong look . Toxic masculinity all the way down.

I'm wondering if to eek it out I should start watching it all again from the OG Channel 4 series.
I'm not normally one of those people, but this is one of those series like the Sopranos that I've returned to.

i'm not sold on it yet. but I'll give it a chance still.
having just watched first 100 ep of the animated show on crunchyroll it feels very inferior.
the editing and acting in a lot of places (esp when they they change perpective on camera angles and it's poorly cut so you notice the actor is doing the line in isolation breaks immersion massively and it happened a lot) feels like a bbc fantasy drama (merlin etc) levels of production, which is not a great look for these days.

I think it helps. A colleague tried to start on the first netflix one and then went back and found it more enjoyable.

Do you know what, I was kinda lucky that I didn't watch it when it first came out, so I only watched the original last autumn.
Not gonna lie, if I were you I would be very tempted to rewatch from the start, depending on your time and life commitments.

Yeah... so... I have very little in the way of free time. Most of it comes from bloated Teams calls and idk think I can get away with watching a show in the background.
However, I know that if I watch the new series I'm just going to smash it, not get enough sleep and then wished I'd watched it slower. Hence the idea of going all the way back to the start.
It'd also be interesting to see Skully's evolution.
My prediction is that Skully will die and Deshane will go to jail. A novel twist that would piss everyone off would be for him to die from a heart attack.

Those teams meetings must be affecting your concentration, he's called Sully.

Painkiller is very good (though I haven't done Dopesick).
Also halfway through s2 of a West Wing rewatch - fuck me it's great. Best series ever for me. Still so prescient and relevant. Makes you weep for the state of politics here and in the US. -

Just started watching Storyvilles - Blue Bag Life was wonderful, really illuminating about the lives of the addicts I used to see in the centre of Greenwich all the time.

Blue Bag Life
Reluctant to google that.

All this Sopranos talk and the article in long reads prompted a re-watch, I am already in the middle of season 2, still great.
-
• #8744
Possibly an underrated season, although I'd still say the best thing about it is that S3 comes next.
-
• #8745
Watching strange new worlds season 2 and there is a under decks cross over episode. Wow.
-
• #8746
Followed by a dark episode 8, then a musical episode.

Lower decks.

Lower decks, I'm sure I said I liked it.
