• I’m selling this with great regret, just because I don’t have time to ride it (too many other bikes). It would be great if it went to someone who appreciates it! One of my first neo-retro / MGOOF builds from a few years ago, it’s a 1980s Gianni Motta Personal - I’m not sure of the exact year. The brand is a bit underrated I think, in my opinion this one is well up there with the other Italian race bikes of a similar vintage I have owned & ridden (including Gios, Colnago etc.) Motta won the 1966 Giro and later founded a brand of his own. The Personal frames were built from Columbus SL tubing although they never had Columbus stickers for some reason. They have a few unique details, most noticeably the beautiful seat stays which are curved around the wheel and brake bridge, as well as seat stay caps, fork crown with octagonal section and a few pantograph details. This is a really classy frameset, quite light, lively to ride, and very pretty.

The frame is in the same condition as when I got it - pretty good shape but not pristine. Straight, no dents, no serious rust or significant damage. It does have a fair few chips and superficial scratches consistent with being well ridden, a couple of retouched spots and a few rough patches on the chromed sections. I’ve shown the most significant in the pictures. I had planned to get it repainted - I was thinking it would look great in white, or some kind of 80s neon fade - so I have a set of replacement decals which I will include with the bike.

Ready to ride as shown. Since building it, I have ridden it a few hundred km at the very most, all components were new so are in excellent condition. Groupset has a bit of very light rust on some of the bolts but works perfectly. Wheels are true and hubs are smooth, minimal rim wear.

Frameset: Gianni Motta Personal Columbus SL
    Headset: Campagnolo Record
Groupset: Campagnolo Potenza 11 speed shifters, FD & RD - 170mm 52/36t chainset - 11-29t cassette - Ultratorque BB (NB. brake callipers will be switched to black Veloce, not the Potenza ones as shown in pictures).
    Wheels: Campagnolo Scirocco
Tyres: Continental Ultrasport 23mm (almost new - just ridden around the block)
    Stem: Factory 5 Titan 90mm
Bars: Easton EA70 40cm c-c, new bar tape
    Seatpost: Thomson Elite
    Saddle: Selle San Marco Monza
Pedals: Look Keo (I will take these off if you don’t want them, I have some cheap flat pedals I can stick on instead so it’s rideable).

    Top tube 52.5cm c-c
    Seat tube 51cm c-c, 52.5cm c-t
    Head tube 10.5cm

I am just over 5ft 6in and the bike fits me ok as shown here, it’s ever so slightly too big - I think this stem is maybe 1cm too long for me, but with the right setup it would fit someone my height perfectly. With a layback seatpost and 100-120mm stem I’m sure it would suit someone up to about 5ft 9in, maybe a tiny bit more.

I would really like to sell the complete bike as it is. If it doesn’t sell as it is after a few weeks, I think I will probably sell the groupset and wheels and keep the frame. Maybe I will get round to having it repainted one day!

    £690 o.n.o. please

Collection in London NW3 / NW5 area, or I could deliver it within a reasonable distance - maybe inside the M25 / north of the river. I would very much prefer not to post for now.

Please get in touch if you have any questions. Thanks for looking!

    Dave
