I'd say that the KWCC audaxes are consistently excellent but I'd add that I've often seen people ride them on Dogmas and Cervelo S5s - much more of a geography/demographic thing than an audax thing. You're right in the middle of the dentist belt, after all.
Enter a random 200 outside of London and you'll see far more of the 80s steel / trikes / botched dynamo setups involving cable ties and Pritt Stick you might have expected. : )
Great read!
So just reporting back I did the Rowlands Ramble!
Had a great time - My first Audax, and my first 200k
(Actually about 250K when I cycled to / from the start.)
Lovely route, and lovely day for it.
Was last to finish, but still pretty chuffed.
I slightly misjudged the vibe of audaxes, and thought it was gonna be all steel frames and saddlebags. I might’ve been about 20 years too late for that, and my bike was probably one of the heaviest...
Ah well, might make some changes if I do it again.
I took the advice here of ‘eat often, more than you think’ and that seemed to work very well. I didn’t crash or anything, so thanks for that.
